I thought AKB48 would take it this year and the usual snub for Arashi like they did last year..... Edit: Just to make it clear, I was surprised AKB48 didn't win the single sales category and wasn't expecting Arashi as a winner considering Johnny's were snubbed by Billboard and MTV before. I hope Arashi will accept the award since its a sales award and not the kind of subjective voting recognition thingy.

Details about the award. Most of the charts winners above  were based on Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart, which ranks songs based on retail and airplay data. [ Wikipedia | BBbiz ]. Those were not voted by fans. In other words, it was based on hard numbers and professionally audited data. So there's no need to butthurt on behalf of other artist that didn't get recognized because they simply didn't give Japan the money and the glitz.

Fan voted categories are 1) Japan Top POP artist; 2) Japan Classic Artist of the year; 3) Japan Jazz Artist of the year & 4) Independent Artist of the year as shown at the voting page here. There were other categories last year like K-pop New artist and Rising International Artist.

This is not an award like the Grammys.
