Ebizo's alleged assailant arrested

Police arrested on Friday a 26-year-old man for allegedly assaulting top kabuki performer Ichikawa Ebizo at a bar in Tokyo in late November.

The Metropolitan Police Department said the man, identified as Rion Ito, a resident of Tokyo, owned up to the assault. He was quoted as saying: "It's true that I punched him. I'll provide details after I've cleared my mind."

Ebizo, 33, at an earlier news conference denied engaging in any act of violence.

Investigative sources alleged that Ito, a former member of a motorcycle gang, punched Ebizo in the face in the early morning of Nov. 25 at a bar in Tokyo's Nishiazabu district and caused him to sustain heavy injuries, including a broken cheek bone.

And IF he is a foreigner and committed a crime, he should be punished. Just like IF he's Japanese and committed a crime, he should be punished >>;; Being foreign has nothing to do with anything...

I think they said he was half american in earlier reports, didn't they? Although that could have easily been the media being wrong. Whenever someone is "half" something it seems the media assumes it's half-american until proven otherwise. XD

And I'm sure everyone agrees that regardless of ethnicity the dude in question should be punished, but Japan (like most countries, unfortunately) has a reputation for liking to blame crime on foreigners. Thus Chidori's mention of the ""let put the blame on foreigners" mentality.

yeah it was a mistake, I'm very sorry for that, it wasn't intentional.
But regardless if he is really a foreigner my point is that I expected the culprit to look japanese and the Bob Sapp-like description to be just an exaggeration. I'm not saying the man looks like Bob Sapp, because he doesn't, at all, just that I expected a different outcome. Either way, we'll have to wait and see how this ends.

I knew it saw it somewhere! The early reports did indeed say he described his attacker as half-american.

uhh I didn't say he was a foreigner.
I just thought, before reading this news, that the police was purposely putting the blame on a foreigner, or at least someone who didn't look japanese to japanese people.

Now of course if he is guilty he should be prosecuted. I didn't wanted to start wank, either.

I think he's half Japanese and half Brazilian from what I have read.
But he grew up in Japan his whole life so I consider him Japanese.

And he's a former bosozoku, not a current one.
From current situations, they're blaming Ebizo, not him so it's not the foreigner mentality in this case.
Ebizo was using it to identify him though.
