Philippine label plans on officially releasing J-pop albums in the Philippines

Philippine record label Universal Records Philippines posted something on their official Facebook page on May 30, 2011 which contains a link leading to the Kis-My-Ft2 fanpage. This was followed by another post that says if there are Kis-My-Ft2 fans in the Philippines followed by the question: Would u be interested if we release their album in the Philippines? We'd love to hear your honest thoughts.

Because of these, fans led to a speculation that the label will release J-pop albums in the Philippines very soon. On the same day, a poll on the label's fanpage was posted with the question: OKAY. HERE'S YOUR CHANCE TO TELL US. ARE U INTO J-POP, K-POP OR C-POP?, in which it received varying answers among Filipino fans.

The next day, the label posted: Unbelievable but true! J-pop fans have invaded Universal Records Philippines Facebook Fanpage!

It was followed by a note containing a message to J-pop fans that quote:

"To all J-pop fans. Thank u very much for all your comments & suggestions. We are overwhelmed and amazed by your love & passion for J-pop. We are still in the process of education & preparation just like how we prepared for K-pop in the past. These things cannot be done overnight and we beg for your patience & understanding.

Universal Records always takes pride in promoting our products, whether it's OPM or K-Pop. We take our job seriously that's why we are home to some of the biggest OPM artists (Gary Valenciano, Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Christian Bautista, Nina, Jed Madela, Jay R, Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikazee, Sponge Cola, Noel Cabangon etc.) and to date we have accumulated TWENTY (20) Number One K-Pop Albums (based on record stores' album chart), which other record labels have tried to do but failed.

In 1995, Universal Records released two of the biggest J-pop acts (under Avex Japan) during that time - trf and Globe and for 2011 we are expanding beyond Korean pop. Watch out for more updates here in our Facebook Fanpage. どうも有難う .

Feel free to post anything about J-pop here in our Fanpage. We'd love to hear from u again.
"

Happy that Universal Records is giving Jpop a chance. I'd love to buy some jpop albums with cheaper price (andn o shipping fee lol)

But... I'm afraid of the quality... lots of their kpop albums are in loq quality. >_>
[info]rozehism 1st-Jun-2011 12:37 pm (UTC)

It's nice to hear that Universal Records already considering in releasing J-pop albums here in the Philippines. At least I could buy my idols album cheaper. HOWEVER....I don't want to see J-POP to suddenly explode posers appears..then fizzle out. I just don't want to see J-POP devalued in the end.. >____
[info]twentyeytako 1st-Jun-2011 01:01 pm (UTC)
A+
[info]nikhapi 1st-Jun-2011 12:58 pm (UTC)
about time...
[info]dalampasigan 1st-Jun-2011 01:00 pm (UTC)
Doubtful about the quality too, but it'd be great to see J-pop when I walk into music stores here. There's too much K-pop already of the SM Entertainment variety. And 2NE1, because Dara's known here.
[info]lelouchikaru 1st-Jun-2011 01:32 pm (UTC)
and not to mention, K-pop artists are also contributing to the J-pop market through their Japanese debuts at that point.

[info]genickph 1st-Jun-2011 03:41 pm (UTC)

[info]whannica 1st-Jun-2011 01:04 pm (UTC)
i am seriously torn! as much as i want Jpop goods here, I don't want them to turn JPOP into a "masa" thing!
[info]applerain622 1st-Jun-2011 01:09 pm (UTC)
This!
[info]taylorniw 1st-Jun-2011 01:06 pm (UTC)
I'm not going to vote, but hopefully people pick someone who will leave a good first impression.
[info]politicalfruits 1st-Jun-2011 01:06 pm (UTC)
At first I was, 'fuck yes!!!' but then again, I'm doubting if jpop would sell here since it's not as popular as kpop. D:

[info]mich04elle This again.1st-Jun-2011 01:17 pm (UTC)
Either way, it's more of a mixed feeling. I understand some fans dnw jpop to be exposed (specifically JE). I know that feeling. I'm also a kpop fan, but there's also lots of advantages. Besides JE, there'll be other jpop CD's available, it will be easier to have YUI, Orange Range, Aqua Timez and many more. As a JE fan, it's easier to have JE Singles and Albums, because there are lots of JE fans around. For non-JE singers, kinda hard to look for a seller isn't it? So, selling jpop albums here isn't so bad right?
[info]lelouchikaru Re: This again.1st-Jun-2011 01:24 pm (UTC)
Non-JE acts like Utada Hikaru sell well. I bought UHSCV2 December last year when it was released here in the Philippines.

Anyone who knows the title of the trf and Globe albums mentioned above from 1995's release?
[info]lelouchikaru 1st-Jun-2011 01:20 pm (UTC)
THIS. One of the reasons why J-pop became popular here in the Philippines.
[info]worthelle 1st-Jun-2011 01:22 pm (UTC)
why didn't I see this on facebook before? huh!

okay whatever!!! If it's true I'll be happy then! ^_^
[info]redblood619 1st-Jun-2011 01:24 pm (UTC)
PLEASE NO. i beg of you

[info]lelouchikaru 1st-Jun-2011 01:26 pm (UTC)
why not?
[info]laurene123 1st-Jun-2011 01:25 pm (UTC)
i'm torn. don't know if i'll be happy or sad. at least we would be able to get the cd's easier rather than shipping it from overseas, on the other hand, i don't want it to explode like kpop and just be everywhere. :( selfish i know.
[info]gwynfryd 2nd-Jun-2011 02:13 am (UTC)
mte.
[info]riapi 1st-Jun-2011 01:26 pm (UTC)
whatevs... i'm not going to buy though..
i'm afraid the quality won't be that good..

NO!!!!
[info]kimivalkyrie 1st-Jun-2011 01:35 pm (UTC)
Anything to improve the dire selection back at home. Shame any artists I'd really be interested in buying stuff from are probably not going to be picked up, but oh well.

I'd also hope that the releases chosen for release in The Philippines aren't just anime tie-up songs or whatever.
[info]gazerock382 1st-Jun-2011 02:00 pm (UTC)
+1000
[info]lelouchikaru 1st-Jun-2011 01:36 pm (UTC)
I know some of you are after the quality and we are all finding for that satisfaction rate but...
[info]pinky_fairy10 1st-Jun-2011 01:37 pm (UTC)
I thought they won't because Kpop is more accepted here?

though I have mixed feelings about this.
[info]fe_brice_ly 1st-Jun-2011 01:40 pm (UTC)
i'll be amused to see j-pop albums soon, but i'll be more amused if they please j-pop stars to have concert here.
[info]minamichan03 1st-Jun-2011 03:18 pm (UTC)
