Ayu never technically married to Mannie

The marriage between Manuel Schwarz (31) and Hamasaki Ayumi (33) which took place last year in Nevada on New Year's Day has ended in divorce, fulfilling the predictions of many spectators into the relationship. It was recently discovered that Hamasaki never registered the marriage in Japan, and the singer has been listed as single according to the registry of the national government. The singer went to the Middle East on the 16th of this month and will be back to Japan later this month.

The divorce was applied for on January 16 and was granted acceptance the same day.

Despite having an official marriage in the US last year and receiving a marriage license from the state of Nevada, Hamasaki never submitted the marriage application in her home country of Japan. In response to this, a spokesperson for the scandalous singer said, "Nevada was where they were wed and where the ceremony took place so we went through with the procedures of the state." The lack of registration, however, essentially means that Hamasaki was officially single.

This is totally OT, but I didn't know individual LJ communities could participate in the blackouts, too. :o I figured if it was gonna happen, all of LJ would just do it.

sketchy marriage is a failure.

Typical.
retahdedtim 18th-Jan-2012 05:53 am (UTC)
So...what was the point of her marrying him if she was never going to register her marriage and actually be married to him...? Actually, what was the point of her marrying him and then living in a different hemisphere than him? Actually, you know what, let's all pretend that none of this never happened. Unless she just wanted to troll everyone in order to drum up some publicity for herself. In which case, this year plus plan for trolling deserves a round of applause. What planning! What commitment! Bravo, Ayu, bravo.

I am so confused by this comment
patentpending 18th-Jan-2012 06:37 am (UTC)
Well, if she was planning to move to the states like she said, to live when she wasn't working, I could see why she wouldn't register the marriage in Japan, especially if that is not where she was planning to live with him.
pladpuss 18th-Jan-2012 06:43 am (UTC)
Well, no one saw that coming at all.
snow_meow 18th-Jan-2012 07:21 am (UTC)
Looks like someone was planning ahead by not registering in Japan.
Was it forgetfulness or being too busy?

Or it was planned?
rainbow_yarn 18th-Jan-2012 08:22 am (UTC)
I don't really see how it matters if they considered themselves married.
chibi_rei 18th-Jan-2012 08:29 am (UTC)
Okay so... she was single in Japan. Does it still count? I mean, if they went through all the necessary stuff in America, was she married or not?
chibi_rei 18th-Jan-2012 08:30 am (UTC)
Obviously it didn't count in Japan, but in America she's considered married -- or not because she's not an American citizen?
aeslis 18th-Jan-2012 08:34 am (UTC)
I don't get this. So, do married couples from America who go to Japan suddenly become ~unmarried~? Or is it that it's okay for anyone who's not of Japanese blood? Which means they've got everyone born in their country under their thumb. I just. This registry thing befuddles me.
hadashi_no_eden 18th-Jan-2012 06:47 pm (UTC)
If you are married in your home country (for straight marriage) you are married everywhere else. I think this would work the same way if you say are American but got married in Germany. You and your husband aren't German citizens so your marriage isn't legal there. You have to get legally married in a country where you are a citizen. Of course, you can have your ceremony anywhere you want.

taecish 18th-Jan-2012 12:18 pm (UTC)
haha ayu u scandalous diva
stellarabyss 18th-Jan-2012 12:47 pm (UTC)
Does it really matter that she didn't register her marriage? She said they planned to live in the US. So why bother with the paperwork when you won't even be living in the country.

So by her not registering her marriage in Japan does that mean she could of married someone else in Japan? And is he a US citizen? I'm asking because I'm wondering if two people can get married in the country that neither one of them are a citizen of.

abusedpancake 18th-Jan-2012 08:58 pm (UTC)
of course they can marry in a country of which they are not a citizen of.

but i think he is us citizen - he lives in california or something.. this is what i understood
coika 18th-Jan-2012 01:02 pm (UTC)
She probably didn't register the marriage because under Japanese law it would require one party or the other to change their name for the family registration.

Obviously Ayu probably wouldn't have wanted to change her name, nor would her husband probably want to take Ayu's name.

It's not an uncommon situation.
abusedpancake 18th-Jan-2012 09:00 pm (UTC)
this must be the reason for which she didnt register her marriage.
ohprecioustime 18th-Jan-2012 01:22 pm (UTC)
lmao smart bitch, don't mess with Ayu and her monies, didn't even register the marriage

There was a rumor they had a prenup according to one of the news programs I watched that covered their divorce. (Which had to be explained as to what it was since they're not very common here...)

Not sure if it's true or not, though.
mjspice 18th-Jan-2012 01:45 pm (UTC)
WTF to both this & the fact that she's in the Middle East!
