Weekly Oricon Chart: Albums/Singles/Music-DVDs

Popular dance and vocal group, EXILE have topped the albums chart again for the 3rd consecutive week with "EXILE JAPAN/Solo." This is the first time they achieved this feat since their debut in September 2001. The last time a group achieved this was 4 years ago by Kobukuro with "5296" (4 consecutive weeks at no.1 from 31st December 2007 until 21st January 2008).

In the singles chart, popular Johnnys duo, KinKi Kids extended their own Guiness World Book of Records with their 32nd consecutive no.1 single since debut, "Kawatta Katachi no Ishi." Successful producer, Akimoto Yasushi wrote the lyrics to the title track. Their debut single, "Garasu no Shounen" debuted at no.1 in July 1997.

Meanwhile, popular rock band, RADWIMPS achieved simultaneous no.1 ranking in both overall DVD and Blu-Ray Disc (BD) charts for the first time with "Zettai Enmei." Since the beginning of BD chart inception in July 2008, this is only the second time for any male group or soloist to achieve this since Mr.Children did it with "Mr.Children TOUR 2011 SENSE" last year (released on November 23rd). For RADWIMPS, the last time they achieved the no.1 position in the music-DVD chart was 4 years and 11 months ago with "RADWIMPS 4.5" (released in July 2007).

Posting the top 30 albums/singles and the top 10 music-DVDs. The second column in the top 10 refers to sales in 2012. New release in bold.

so cool that you're getting it! :)
nakulayan 19th-Jan-2012 08:54 am (UTC)
It won't arrive til March tho. I was after the multi-buy discount XD, so i'll receive it when THE BAWDIES budokan live dvd releases. In the meantime, I replay the preview on their homepage. Pathetic, but it's sooooo awesome and addicting. Plus the this live dvd/bd had "Kyoshinsho," which I have to see a live version. Still bitter it wasn't performed when I saw them at the Nippon Gaishi Hall. Also, Noda played the piano and keyboard a LOT, lots of instrumental portions too. I don't think that was in previous live dvds. I hope they included all those extras in this.

tsuyoi_hikari 18th-Jan-2012 07:41 am (UTC)
Really happy for KinKi. ♥♥

But this is their worst first week sales ever. Hope the sale for their next single will improve. They should be more active and start promoting nationwide again. I'm hoping for a tour for their 15th Anniversary. :)
tiffa666 18th-Jan-2012 07:51 am (UTC)
Happy for ViViD, congrats boys! I really love this single plus it's bonus track in the regular edition!^^
yuma_daisuki 18th-Jan-2012 08:40 am (UTC)
Amazing how NYC/Yuma's single manage to stay in the middle of all those new releases xD
yuka 18th-Jan-2012 08:55 am (UTC)
I'm glad Kinki Kids ranked number one again! :D (the record's still on)

And I'm really really happy for D☆DATE! First day sales didin't look that good but I'm glad they made it to the 6th rank! (It would have been nice of course if Yuma and his folks weren't 5th <<")

i've never listened to exile nor have i actually met anyone who does.

i mean you'd think they have some stans here but i haven't seen any. weird
hanakimmie 18th-Jan-2012 11:00 am (UTC)
Its probably because:

○ Age factor-Exile's older and their largest group on fans is women 35-49 year old so I assume arama age avg is probably younger

○ The songs-not as poppy as AKB/Johnnys groups, lots of ballads, R&Bish

○ Appearance-They don't have the clean cut look that most of the Japanese male artist have so they may only appeal to certain people.

○ I don't think they even have a subbing group for them anymore so basically its much harder to find out about them if you don't know Japanese

○ They hardly have any articles for the fans to stan over here on arama except the Hiro/Aya Uta marriage rumor one. Most mentions of Exile on arama seem to be ones like this post-theres really nothing to say besides "Yeah" "you guys did it again" "congrats" or other generic comments so...

So basically their fans are older, have great taste, have a life,(well some of us do but since I had time to write this up I'm obviously not one of them) and stan elsewhere about their superiority to all the other groups out there & how it sucks that barely anyone outside of Japan knows about them :D

Actually EXILE is really popular with my high school students and a lot of Japanese girls I know around my age (20's). And Makidai is the Tuesday host for the morning program ZIP!, along with Gussan of Tokio.

I just think because the memebers don't do much outside of music, that it's harder to get into them if you're not living in Japan.
the_free_cat 19th-Jan-2012 03:01 am (UTC)
Exile is also popular among guys in their late 10's and 20's (I do not know about other generations though).
exdream1999 19th-Jan-2012 11:04 am (UTC)
Well, I guess I should have said both my male and female students.

They're right after Arashi as most popular male artist at my school.
fancifury 18th-Jan-2012 08:02 pm (UTC)
lol awesome comment. thanks.

i like mr. children! haha
exdream1999 19th-Jan-2012 11:05 am (UTC)

It might be a bit harsh, but it's really kind of true.

Outside of like AKB and JE, it's pretty much like you say.
whited_79 19th-Jan-2012 06:25 am (UTC)
I'm a big fan, but I don't feel the need to post a lot or rave a lot about them since they don't need it, they're already so huge in Japan and make lots of money...

if you need to listen to them though, I'd recommend their 2008 best albums, ballad best for their best ballads, catchy best for their uptempo pop tunes, and entertainment best for everything else in between (my favourite)...
kochan_addict 18th-Jan-2012 09:26 am (UTC)
Here to cheer for the KinKi.
But those are the numbers you get when you DON'T PROMOTE >.<
Seriously, what the hell is going on?! There is absolutely no promotion for them this time! Who was the idiot responsible for this stupid release date, when BOTH KinKi are not around to promote?!

That said, I am proud of them for getting no.1 again and for these no-promotion numbers.
neivaxx 18th-Jan-2012 11:03 am (UTC)
MTE! Aside from that one (obligatory) SDK performance, they haven't performed it on TV at all, have they? D:
kochan_addict 18th-Jan-2012 04:10 pm (UTC)
Yep, no TV perfs AT ALL.
We got the (indeed obligatory) SDK and of course the recording on their radio show.
SO disappointing.

I think Coming Soon had to resort to reporting about their K con as an excuse for shoving in some TV time.

EXILE and Kinki Kids deserve to sell more tbh. Do you know of any online sites that sell this latest EXILE album?
whited_79 19th-Jan-2012 02:44 pm (UTC)
at least EXILE have doubled Negai no Tou's sales for the second week in a row has actually reached Negai no Tou's 3 week sales despite opening at a lot less than Negai no Tou...

all online sites have the album, HMV, CDJapan,, Yesasia...I bought my copy from HMV since the shipping to SEA via EMS is the cheapest...
thewarpedmelody 19th-Jan-2012 03:05 pm (UTC)
There is a post on facebook claiming EXILE has sold past 800,000 O.O

Hmmm, I shall try ordering via HMV then. Thanks :D

I'm really happy for KinKi Kids and I still squeal inside over the fact that Aki-P wrote the song (even though this song is not my favorite). I like it when my fandoms come together in some way...
thewarpedmelody 19th-Jan-2012 07:02 am (UTC)
OO the lyrics of this new Kinki Kids song is written by Aki-P?
