Kim Tae-hee’s Japan event canceled

Actress Kim Tae-hee has been forced to pull out of a press conference for a new cosmetics commercial in Japan.

Kim was supposed to attend the event Tuesday for her new advertisement for the Japanese cosmetic brand of pharmaceutical company, Rohto. However, she cancelled just one day before the event,.

The event was going to feature a preview of the new television commercial for a skin-care line starring the Korean actress.

According to Japanese sports newspaper Nikkan Sports, the event was cancelled because of hateful comments on Internet community boards and various blogs in light of Japan’s “Takeshima Day” on Wednesday. Her agency eventually decided to withdraw her from the scheduled event because of safety concerns.

The actress, who has appeared in Japanese TV drama, "Me and My Star’s 99 Days," began to receive criticism from anti-Korean Japanese protestors in October 2011, after she publicly advocated the Dokdo islets as Korean territory.

Korea and Japan are in a long dispute over the islets’ sovereignty.

"she publicly advocated the Dokdo islets as Korean territory."
Well she should have kept quiet tbh, her activities in Japan will definitely be affected

Celebrities in general just shouldn't get political in public imo

idk the incident they're* attacking her for happened in 2005 tho, i doubt she even considered having a career in japan then.
and besides that, shouldn't she be allowed to have and voice her political opinions and still have a career? japan has freedom of speech

You're like basically offending a country which you're trying to have a career in. Its like a Taiwanese actor trying to make a career in China then declare that Taiwan is an independent state of its own.

Freedom of speech only makes it legal.

you're still gonna get judged by the country.

Considering her job she can't say whatever she likes, it's something that she can't afford because it will influence on her work, just like now.

the takeshima/dokdo conflict is so strange to me because it seems to be mostly driven by old hardass politicians and nationalists in both countries
- and then celebrities feel they need to take a stance to show their "allegiance" because the same old geezers have so much power in controlling the media

hopefully future politicians in both countries will be reasonable and find a solution to it.

Well Singapore and Malaysia had a similar dispute like this, a territorial dispute over several islets (Pedra Branca). In the end this dispute was settled by ICJ, not sure if Korea and Japan will use this method

Your both right and wrong.

For the general public it is all naional pride and nothing else. Whether or not Korea (or Japan but in this example korea) owns the islands won't effect them at all.

However for fishing communities and the government these islands are very important since owning them can dramticley increase the amount of the ocean that Korea can exclusivley fish in.

These fights over islands occur all the time, just google Rockall for another (though less politically charged) similar dispute.

after all the bullshit these countries are always getting themselves into I say the islands shouldn't belong to either of them. hows that.

Islands go to US.

I'm sure japan or korea wouldn't object to that.
