Yamapi apologises to fans, NEWS fans still hate him

Johnny’s talent Tomohisa Yamashita talked to his fans about leaving NEWS, reports Infoseek.

While shooting a TV appearance on music show “HEY! HEY! HEY!” on February 19, Yamashita shared his thoughts with the fans in the studio.

“It’s my first time after leaving NEWS so I am nervous, but I also really feel that safety the members gave me when they were with me.”

It has been reported Yamashita continued to explain the situation to his fans.

“I’m sorry. I know there might be fans who I’ve hurt but we didn’t separate as the result of a fight. We decided to grow in our own way so please don’t cry.”

Finally, the Johnny’s star said he was optimistic about the future of both parties, commenting, “I want to work towards a brighter and fun future with all of you, and those guys, and to do that I want to put everything I have into polishing up my skills, and continue to put smiles on your faces. I hope that you’ll come with me.”

It has been reported a number of fans in the crowd started crying. After the shoot, Yamashita came down and shook hands with every fan as they left. Some fans commented with, “I’ll always be his fan” and “I will support him”.

However, Cyzowoman reports a lot of fans were still unsatisfied. Some comments included:

“Didn’t he leave them? Get your act together. You wanted to do something right. Do you know how much you hurt the members and the fans? I wish he wouldn’t say stuff like this now.”

“Honestly, why now?? Just when things had settled down and NEWS were about to make a new start, why did he want to bring the topic back up?”

“Cruel! The four of them are working hard together so stop talking about NEWS!!”

The sad thing is that anything Yamapi says or does now comes out as negative to some fans. It may be an indication as to how difficult it will be for him to win back their trust...

And the fact that Pi was the leader, NEWS was kind of created "for him", bluntly said.

I don't know Pi well (at least not anymore). He might be just attempting to get his old fans/NEWS fans to forgive him and support him? <- trying to create some drama here lol

I mean, if he really cared that much, he should/would have cleared the air much earlier, rather than now... PR?

Pi was never a leader. He was their senpai and the most known and popular member, so they called him leader but he never had to act like one, and the rest of NEWS never really expected him to do so. Being leader is a fake title for most johnnys anyway. The one time Pi acted as a leader was when the shit with Uchi and Kusano went down and he was the first one making apologies BECAUSE he was the face of NEWS. People never seem to remember that part.

Now is the first time he's showing up in music shows as a solo artist without NEWS. His first time face to face with fans, and they showed they were upset, so he answered them. He couldn't do that before.

I don't resent neither him nor Ryo for leaving, but I AM butthurt that fans only seem to be angry at Pi leaving and say it was OK for Ryo to do so when BOTH of them were forever facing the conflicting schedule issue.

I'm not even a NEWS fan really, and I think saying Pi never was a leader in anything, but title is a bit much. You can't over look the fact they guys have sid time and time again. He was the one that made them have hope that news would work and pulled them all back together after their "break." They also said Pi lead them in many talks and behind the scenes stuff. He did a good job at being a leader, as much as NEWS needed him to be. Just like all the Leaders. Yeah, the other memebers will play up to the whole "look down on leader thing." But if you listen to them, they are always talking about what strong leaders they have that fit their groups and they do their job when needed. Even Ohno's spaced out ass has shown he can and will step up when he's needed to.

And when it comes to that conflicting schedule thing, it still doesn't help Pi out much since no matter what, Ryo always had more work then him and managed, so why couldn't Pi? Honestly, if K8 didn't have the huge boom they've had, I honestly believe Ryo still might have tried to stick it out.

The talks about him acting as leader were almost as many as the talks about him not acting like one. Most of the mentions of him being the "strong one to pull them through" were more about him being more experienced thus more entitled to tell them what to do or what to say, as their senpai, not their leader. Same goes for all the other groups. Except for V6's Sakamoto, I think all the other leaders are also both the older ones in a group and the ones with more time in the agency, thus in a higher ranking within johnnys. There are only a handful of things that the leaders are actually responsable for, and in NEWS Pi wasn't more in charge than the rest of the guys when it came to do the things they had to do, he was just the one that had to face the agency or the media if things went wrong. Koyama and the rest are big and strong enough to do that for themselves, so they only really need Pi for their popularity, not his "leader skills".

It's not that *Pi* couldn't deal with his work schedule, it was that the rest of the group suffered for it, same for Ryo. And Pi has always had the same amount of work than Ryo (and more than him, a few years back), it's just that Pi's work is solo when Ryo's was half in Eito, half solo. It wasn't only Eito as a group that had a boom the last few years, it was Ryo's solo work as well, so I completely get why he decided to leave NEWS, but it he had stayed, I believe that Pi would have stayed as well. What I don't think would have ever happen is either of them staying if the other didn't.

Pi was the official leader of NEWS (introduced so on some music+talk show when they debuted). It was said that he never wanted to be in a group and thus has never acted like a leader to the group, nor was he particularly close to his group members. Regardless him ever did anything like a leader, he was still the leader, officially (though not de facto)

At the start when the news broke out, it appears that Ryo is more apologetic than Pi, from his words. Pi was pretty "I don't care" kind of attitude, which pissed people off (I'm assuming that's why people are more edgy when it comes to Pi over Ryo). If he really wanted to apologise, he could have done so via other means, it doesn't necessarily has to be on a music show etc, since it won't be televised anyway (and he's still going to get painted badly by sports news etc, sigh)

As for Ryo, he has been more involved in K8 anyway, seeing how NEWS was pretty much on hiatus most of the time, and hence people naturally accepted him being in K8 only. It's Pi's initial attitude that made people angry at him more than Ryo. And also that he had always been pushing his own solo works, without making time out for NEWS's stuff, making his solo a higher priority when he is "obviously" in a group and solo is like a "sideline job", loosely said.

And I'm not a NEWS fan >_> I don't really care about Pi anyway (nor Ryo), never on my list of J&A favorites. It's pretty obvious we are just speculating/discussing the reasons why people will hate/not forgive Pi. You're throwing your butthurt feelings at the wrong parties here. (And I'm very sure those I-hate-Pi-so-much-because-he-quit-NEWS fans are generally not commenting on this post because they have already foamed in angry or whatever)
