She`s probably invested a lot emotionally into this pregnancy and has all of these expectations of how great it will be to be a mother. Probably now she`s not so depressed, partially in thanks to a change in hormone levels as well. However, after ward, she could fall into postpartum depression and it could be bad because seeking therapy is heavily stigmatized. I`ve known some women who suffered from it and did things like give their babies to their mothers to take care of for up to a year or so and just suffered through their depression at home without the kid around.

My mom didn`t get much of a belly with me. Babies are small, women don`t have to eat much more than normally when pregnant, especially for women who`re overweight to begin with.
