When racism doesn't cut it anymore...you guessed it: a Jin post

The brilliant songwriter and all-around nice guy, Jin Akanishi is about to launch his new album, Japonicana. Some netizens have already gotten their hands on a digital copy and thus on the lyrics of his songs. One in particular is very interesting:

That's what she said - lyrics
edit: Please note that the lyrics can be triggering for people who have experienced sexual violation in any way. Also note that due to the heated discussions a lot of the comments will be triggering as well and none carry warning labels.

My throat hurts - That's what she said
I feel so good - That's what she said
I need this
Chug it

I'm thirsty - That's what she said
I can't drink this - That's what she said
This is too much - That's what she said
It's huge - That's what she said
This tastes funny - That's what she said
My throat hurts - That's what she said
I feel so good - That's what she said
I need this
Chug it

Swallow swallow swallow swallow
Swallow swallow swallow swallow
Chug it
Swallow swallow swallow swallow
Swallow swallow swallow swallow

To the right, to the left, to the left, to the left
Down up down up down up down down up up
Down up down up down up down down up up

(repeat last 3 verses)

So what does it mean? Judge for yourself. The fact that Jin hasn't put one proper sentence in the entire song certainly leaves something for the imagination. It's hard not to think of date rape and misogynism when he uses such classy lines like "Slut + Bitch = Slutch", "I can't drink this", "This tastes funny". How much his fans want to support such a message remains to be seen. Japonicana comes out on March 6th and will be available on itunes and several amazon stores.

First of all, rape culture is in every single culture in the world these days. It's everywhere and most people don't even notice it. Which country do you live in, may I ask?

Everybody here tells women and men, specially children to be careful and explain how to indentify those perverts, and what kind of places to avoid, but if ever happens the entire system works pro victim

You simply don't get the point, do you? That's what I wrote in my comment. I wrote that there are more than enough things aimed at preventing GETTING assaulted, but not enough things done to prevent others from committing assault. And like I said, if a case is made out of it, people generally are prosecuted, but the general focus on preventing being getting assaulted in the first place places the responsibility on the victims, not on the assailants. Please tell me you understand this. I never said you were 'pro-rape culture'. What I get from your comments is that you do not seem to understand what 'rape culture' really is, so please try to find out some more about it.

Again. I'm asking you: In your first comment in reply to this song you said "But women need to be more careful, beause this is a dangerous world". I agree, we need to be careful, because apparently the responsibility on not getting raped is our own, but if you don't think this song is even remotely related to rape, how is what you said related to this song? (... hope that sentence made any sense.)

You're not understanding me. Rape culture doesn't mean everyone condones rape.

Okay you're really not understanding what 'rape culture' means and you can't be bothered to look it up. Please read this.

I'm not saying we need to prosecute every innocent person as a preventive measure. I'm saying there should be television programs, magazine articles, features aimed at EVERYONE telling them the following things:

1. What is consent and why is it important?
2. What is assault and rape?
3. When is it okay to approach someone sexually?
4. How do I approach a stranger to show I'm interested without scaring them or being offensive?

These things are never being dealth with, because the responsibility in all these cases is put with those on the receiving ends. We're suggested to take self-defence classes, to not go out after a certain hour, to stay with a group, to look after our drinks, etc. Are you really saying it might offend people when we tell them how to NOT rape someone? Really? I can't with you right now, really. You keep saying you don't condone rape culture, but then you say all these things that make it very clear that you really don't know what rape culture is, because you keep affirming it in every single thing you say.

This isn't just about those that were molested as children. This is also about the guys that approach us in clubs, thinking we're up for anything and offended if they find out we're not. This is also for all those boys that force their girlfriend into sexual activities too quickly, because they haven't learn to ask for consent, since that's an 'uncool' thing to do.

People don't consider that to be sexual assault, because of RAPE CULTURE. You say you read that one article and you don't seem to understand still. I'm not sure I have the patience to even try and make you understand still, but I guess it's a process. Please keep reading on things like these. The keyword 'rape culture' is a great way to get more conscious of these things going on in EVERY society.

You're missing the point. It's not about people approaching you on the street and immediately having police there (which I doubt, because this has happened to me and god knows how many other people and it's simply not realistic), it's about it NOT happening this much.

Where do you live, if I may ask? I asked you before, but you didn't answer. I'm Dutch, I've been to Japan multiple times, I've lived in Thailand for half a year, I've been all over Western Europe and I see this culture everywhere. Stories from other countries and interaction with people from all over the world have made it clear to me that this happens in every country, in every culture.

If you say that where you live these things don't happen, you're simply not conscious enough to notice it.
