L’Arc~en~Ciel performs at world famous Madison Square Garden

On March 25th, rock group L’Arc~en~Ciel performed at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York City. MSG is a world renowned venue and L’Arc became the first Japanese act to perform a solo concert there. Tons of fans packed the venue.

MSG is located in central Manhattan and it is a venue Western artists take much pride in performing in, MSG has the nickname of The World’s Most Famous Arena. L’Arc was first scheduled to hold their concert at another venue, but when around 5,000 tickets were sold on the spot, they changed their venue to MSG. Before their performance, leader Tetsuya commented, “It’s a privilege to stand on such a historic stage. We’re looking forward to it.

Japanese culture is gradually becoming more popular in the United States, with anime being at the forefront. Vocalist Hyde commented on how some of their American fans are even memorizing and learning Japanese through L’Arc’s lyrics.

Dotty Roldan (47) came to the concert with her daughter Jasmine (18), who became a fan through anime. Dotty happily commented while herself and her daughter were buying T-shirts, “I love L’Arc.” In addition, Cat Davis (27) showed her love for the group as she came to the venue all the way from Mississippi; around 2,000 km (1,242 miles) away from MSG. Last November, Cat also got a tattoo of the band’s name on her back. “I like them right after The Beatles. Even though I can’t understand the lyrics, I can feel the emotion in their songs.

Interesting fact:

When I saw L'arc at Tokyo Dome in 2006 there were more than a couple of Japanese people who came in cosplay, especially as Edward Elric.

The show was amazing. What the crowd lacked in coordination, we made up for in volume!

Ibara no Namida has always been my favorite song from L'Arc. Since they opened on that song I was just a puddle of feelings for the whole show >.

Not a fan of tattoos in general. Even less so of really ugly ones.

I saw clips on TV this morning and it looked amazing.

The first concert of my LIFE was L'arc's performance at Tokyo Dome during their Asian tour back in 2006 and it was amazing.

I may have been at the very back of Tokyo Dome and couldn't see shit, but it didn't matter because the music only was enough.

The concert was amazing but I was definitely side eying folks who came dressed like it was an anime convention. Oh well, I had fun anyway!
milern #%@T#% WORDS what are they?27th-Mar-2012 03:31 am (UTC)
It was amazeballs!! Still reeling from all the fun. The energy was awesome and there was such an eclectic mix of fans!! And I was more surprised at how many Japanese fans that came! I was sitting next to two adorable Japanese girls that couldn't speak a lick of English save for "thank you, excuse me and please." They were wearing the same outfit and looked like they were some serious L'arc "otakus," pardon the expression. I even whacked one over the head with my glow stick by accident and the poor dear turned and apologized to ME. OMG I remember seeing this Dotty lady when coming out of the theater, saw her tattoo when she was taking pictures with her daughter outside, I pointed it out to my friend and she was speechless... Like whyyyy??

Thank you for doing a concert in the US, Laruku! Come again!
