Kento & Fuma, as much as I like seeing you debut, can't help but think you are suited to be grouped with Shintaro, Juri and co, who I think are suuurrreee of debuting in the future.
That statement is a bit discriminatory. It's rude. As an NYC-fan, I feel kind of offended. Although, it's your freedom of speech and very much opinionated. No need for me to qualm or retaliate about it. Everybody has their own set of opinions. But please, one advice, just chose the words to be said wisely. Not everyone will be happy with such lines. I know NYC had their up's and down's but credit them still. They did their best. Just credit their hard work and not everybody can be pleased by what they do.
Anyways, back to the topic, kudos for Sexy Zone. Hopefully they can make more impact. It's nice to know that they are shining through. Good luck, Sexy Zone.
Aw... I like NYC! They're so cute! *pinches their cheeks*
Sexy Zone still feel really awkward on stage. Does it feel like a lot to anybody else? Like their image/the music doesn't really fit with the boys actual personalities and abilities.
They need to be doing cutesier stuff that's perkier and leave the minor keys to HSJ for the moment.
As far as the "cutesy" factor goes, I think it's difficult because Nakaken and Fuuma and way, way, WAY better than that. They can pull off, well, pretty much anything; they have the talent and the experience to be more than just "cutesy" and furthermore they're also both rather past that age. For comparison, think of the performances KimuTaku, Takki, Oh-chan, Yamapi, Jin, Kame and all the other big name Johnny's were producing when they were 17-18. If you believe (as I do) that Nakaken and Fuuma are roughly at the same talent level that their sempai were during their corresponding ages (i.e. not that Nakaken is as good a performer as Takki is now, but that his level is the around the same as Takki's was when Takki was 18), then it's almost insulting for them to be relegated to being just "cutesy."
I realize that there's always been a trend of JE/J&A artists extending the "cute" age a little bit past what might be considered normal outside of the entertainment world. In recent years, it's been particularly perpetuated by HSJ and NYC. But look where that ends up: NYC's fanbase is incredibly small when compared to the average Johnny's group because the number of people who want to see older teens being cutesy is much less than the number of people who want to see older teens giving age appropriate performances (plus there are younger groups who can more authentically give people their "cuteness" fix, both in and out of Johnny's). As for HSJ, they've been trying to update their image to be more suited to the ages of the members without isolating the part of their fanbase that's there for the cute.
Sorry for the long response. In summary, I think it's hard to determine what the right level of "cutesyness" is when you consider Nakaken and Fuuma.
No hard feelings on Sexy Zone, but I don't think Fuma or Kento really belong there. They are simply too...big. I look at all the other ones and they come to Fuma/Kento's eyes. I am happy that these kids got to debut but high voices aren't THAT great, especially if their voices are going to change within a year or two, look at Chinen
I am biased, I had always wished that B.I. Shadow stuck around and put Tanaka Juri in that group just for the hell of it. I think they would have succeeded.
hopefully NYC will stay away from doing children songs after this since it's Sexy Zone's territory now, since Yuma especially is far too handsome and precious to be doing something like this...
