lol not a shotgun wedding?
ohprecioustime 7th-Apr-2012 10:46 pm (UTC)
no because I think they dated for a long time and she is a minor celeb so no real huge media buzz around her not getting married if she got knocked up

well imo ^^

coika 9th-Apr-2012 04:27 am (UTC)
Pretty sure it's a shotgun wedding. Dating for a long time or not being famous has nothing to do with the socially ingrained duty to get married when someone in a relationship gets knocked up. They're just doing what most regular Japanese couples would do in this situation, famous or not.

Hopefully they have reasons for marrying other than the kid, though.

OMG get it girl. I'm so happy for both of them ;A;
cruel_idol 7th-Apr-2012 11:26 pm (UTC)
I'm down for any sort of marriage as long as they think about what happens in the long run and not "just that day". I find too many people caught up in focusing on that day.

Congrats to them.

mjspice 8th-Apr-2012 03:26 am (UTC)
Uhh Sorry to say OP but nowadays people getting married after the woman is pregnant means it's a shotgun wedding anyway. :S

Still Congrats to them. They make such a cute couple.
ohprecioustime 8th-Apr-2012 03:42 am (UTC)
nope, the two aren't some idols or high status celebs and tbh he is wayy outside of regular Japanese ent society

they got married cuz the had a kid, lots of people do this, not really a shot gun if you were dating before imo, shotgun means you have no choice
harukakamiya 8th-Apr-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
That still means it's a shotgun wedding, you dumbass.
ohprecioustime 8th-Apr-2012 04:16 am (UTC)
did you really have to leave the cunty ending to your sentence, jw

besides that...I don't think it is the same, two people date and then get pregnant decide to get married unless they have to marry, isn't a shotgun marriage like idols that need to keep their reputation

"I don't think it is the same, two people date and then get pregnant decide to get married unless they have to marry, isn't a shotgun marriage like idols that need to keep their reputation?"

..umm,no. Shotgun weddings, which is an American term, basically means when two people have an unplanned pregnancy, and decide to get married to cover up the shame in a religious or social culture sense(woman having sex without being married and having a baby? SHAMEFUL!!) But back in the good ole days in America, if a guy got a girl pregnant her father might just kick their butt and force them to marry their daughter, even if that guy thought their daughter was just a fling. And some did use guns to enforce the marriage..just in case the dude had second thoughts.

But japan's term for this is dekichatta kekkon= meanings *opps..im pregnant, guess we gotta get married to fix this..
So no violence, but still its looked as the guy *doing the right thing, because culture wise, single mothers in Japan isn't looked at positively by a lot of people, but its slowly changing...slowly...

So in this chick's case, yeah they were dating..but they were not married before the baby was conceived in her stomach soo....was this planned? I dun care, as long as she happy that's all that matters
uledy 8th-Apr-2012 04:36 am (UTC)
wow, that's super rude. anyway, just because a woman becomes pregnant first and marries later, doesn't make her marriage a shotgun wedding. an unplanned pregnancy followed by a forced marriage constitute a shotgun marriage, not simply a pre-marritial pregnancy. so i'm not sure why you're attacking op...
harukakamiya 8th-Apr-2012 05:32 am (UTC)
Yes, it does make her marriage a shotgun one. A shotgun marriage is one that happens BECAUSE a baby happened to occur before the marriage.
uledy 8th-Apr-2012 05:40 am (UTC)
No. A shotgun marriage is one that happens because of an UNPLANNED pregnancy and a FORCED marital union. I can use capitalization as well. Pregnancy has to occur before marriage, but 1) the pregnancy usually needs to be unplanned and 2) the marriage needs to be forced (socially, physically, religiously, ect). No proof of either.

a shotgun marriage is one "where one or both parties are forced into marriage due to an unplaned pregnancy" -urban dictionary

"A shotgun wedding is a form of forced marriage occasioned by an unplanned pregnancy" - wiki

" A shotgun marriage is a marriage that is forced upon the participants usually because the bride is pregnant." -answers.com

Obviously it's difficult to find a reputable source since it's colloquial, but the idea is there. Anyway, it's worthless to debate this, but even more pointless to be rude to one another unprovoked. That is all.
coika 9th-Apr-2012 04:32 am (UTC)
Holy shit ya'll the Japanese term is "dekichatta kekkon" which literally means "knocked up marriage" so yes getting knocked up and marrying shortly after falls into that category no matter how long you were dating.

You can debate the semantics of how that meshes with the English term "shotgun wedding" all you want, but either way this isn't the kosher way to go about marriage in Japanese society because it places pressure for a couple to get married even if both families may not have otherwise approved the marriage. It's a big deal, also for reasons liime_arix stated.
uledy 9th-Apr-2012 04:44 am (UTC)
That's fine. I understand what できちゃった結婚 means, but this thread wasn't about that, it was about the term "shot-gun marriage" which has a different cultural and contextual meaning. I can't speak for others, but I wasn't using the two terms interchangeably, because they don't have the same meaning. I have no idea why you're replying to me, as my comments never discussed the morality of the situation nor did they downplay how big of a deal the announcement was. Also, I never discussed the length of time a couple needed to date in order to determine whether or not their marriage is a "shot-gun" marriage. So, once again, why reply?
brucelynn 9th-Apr-2012 05:18 pm (UTC)
Was that last sentence neccessary?
senshicalico 8th-Apr-2012 04:18 am (UTC)
today I learned that only celebrities have shotgun marriages.
ohprecioustime 8th-Apr-2012 04:26 am (UTC)
the more you know
liime_arix 8th-Apr-2012 04:35 am (UTC)
Regular people in Japan get shotgun weddings too, it's been happening for years now. If a child is born outside of wedlock in Japan, the father doesn't have to claim the child as his, the child is written as being illegitimate (and therefore discriminated against) on the family registry.

Shotgun wedding by definition is a forced wedding due to an unplanned wedding. So yes it is, tbh, I don't care if they're having a shotgun wedding. It's because of stupid things like the koseki is why it keeps happening.
newsvsyamapi 8th-Apr-2012 07:58 am (UTC)
Congratulations!!!
sunleth 8th-Apr-2012 08:36 am (UTC)
Wow, half the comments here are about the definition of shotgun wedding.

Congrats though.
ethereal_limbo 8th-Apr-2012 01:01 pm (UTC)
the concept of marrying and getting pregnant at the same time once more eludes arama..............................
coika 9th-Apr-2012 04:37 am (UTC)
Another case of arama wanting to believe what they want to believe about a celeb because they stan them or whatever.

I find humor in the people that feel the need to justify it's not a shotgun wedding, though. Obviously they're going to such great lengths to do so because they perceive it as a negative thing, and don't like the idea of being disappointed by someone they like/admire's moral values not meshing with their own. *eye roll*

charisma2 8th-Apr-2012 03:43 pm (UTC)
WHAT EMI MARIA & SEEDA?!??!? Well congrats to them but I did not see that coming. I hope Jasmine post pictures of the wedding since their good friends.
brucelynn 9th-Apr-2012 05:19 pm (UTC)
Congrats to them

and sorry OP but this was most likely a shotgun wedding
