DAIGO, Nishiyama Maki, Wentz Eiji in stage version of “Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de”

Higashigawa Tokuya’s bestselling mystery novel “Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de” is getting its first stage adaptation this summer. The main cast will feature singer/actor DAIGO (34), model Nishiyama Maki (26), and WaT member Wentz Eiji (26).

“Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de” has so far had two books released, selling more than 2.75 million copies combined. Last year, it was turned into a television drama series on Fuji TV that reached ratings as high as 18.1%. The drama starred Arashi’s Sakurai Sho (30) as the sharp-tongued butler Kageyama and Kitagawa Keiko (25) as Hosho Reiko, the daughter of a wealthy family who works as a novice police detective. Although Reiko’s deductive skills as a detective are lacking, Kageyama helps her solve her cases as she tells him details while he serves her dinner.

For the stage version, DAIGO will take on the role of the butler Kageyama, and Nishiyama will play Reiko. Wentz will play Nishiyama’s superior at the police station.

Actor Murakami Hiroki (38) of the acting troupe Sessya Munieru will serve as director and writer. Performances will be held in Tokyo at the Galaxy Theatre in Tennozu from August 31 to September 9.

I hope this turns out better than the drama because i've heard the book is actually good.

Replied to your comment to say that the novel is truly great. I love reading it, sentence per sentence :)

I'm guessing that you read it in the original Japanese?

I would love to read an English translation, even if the quality of the storytelling would be compromised by the inevitable loss/dumbing-down of linguistic humour and cultural references.

Yeah, I'm reading the Japanese version, since that's the only one available :)

Well, of course it will be lost in translation since Kageyama's way of speaking is very old and so it's hard to translate to perfect english sentence, but I think you will still get the gist of it :) I hope that with the success of the drama, sp and now the movie, someone will translate the book to english :D

DAIGO & Eiji??? OMGGGG!
harunomasu 16th-Apr-2012 04:20 am (UTC)
Isn't DAIGO fit the image of the slow-but-lovely Kazamatsuri better than Eiji of Wentz? Just saying.

Anyway, can't wait for this. I love the novel so any adaptation is welcome :D

I thought so too! I can actually hear daigo saying 'hai hai hai hai'...
harunomasu 16th-Apr-2012 06:03 am (UTC)
IKR? That's what I thought too. The image of DAIGO saying "Hai, hai, hai" is too strong to resist XD

I can't but help think that Daigo should be her superior and Wentz be the butler.

Meh, original drama cast was great so I'm a little w/e about this.
