It's hard to explain, like they know it's a bad word in English, but Japan has very few words that are considered bad words, so, they can get away with saying it unless there's a native English speaker around.

Like, you'll see it in anime and there's even kaomoji for it.

It is strangely cute. My favorite part is that the middle finger is an actual Kanji that means convex.


Yeah, there's this strange reaction to it, because they know it's bad, but it's always used in a joking way. :/
