Nakai's ATARU experiences sudden drop in ratings!


TBS's drama "ATARU," which stars SMAP member Nakai Masahiro, has seen a massive drop in ratings in its latest episode. The thirdd episode, which aired on April 29, fell 6% from the previous week, falling to just 10.9%. The statistics were released by Video Research Ltd.

Just a few weeks earlier, the drama topped the rankings of new dramas. Its first episode had an average viewership of 19.9%, making it the most watched debut of the season.

well I'm not surprised, SMAP needs to retire already, they're pushing 60 by the looks of their members' faces. make way for younger and more talented groups please

Nope, Tama would have been just as useless in saving this drama as the thing that makes it so lackluster is the poor script which is something any actor can do so much with.

I thought so, too!! The gimmick was good for one episode but then... *shrug*

IMHO the drama just isn't as good as some of the others airing this season. It has nothing to do with Nakai, who is great.

Ohno's drama is kind of similar but the scripts are lot more clever and the characters are better written...

the problem with ATARU is that it's too predictable. they could have done so much more with the characters, but every single episode seems to be the same. i got bored halfway through episode 3 because i could already see what was going to happen next, etc. etc.

the writers need to do better.

They finally started moving with Ataru's backgrouns sub-plot this week...but, it quickly went back into the same format as usual.

Hopefully the FBI subplot takes a swing up and shakes things up.

People should stop judging the actors based on ratings. I'm not a fan of Smap or Nakai but I really enjoy Ataru and Nakai's acting.

Ataru has a great cast, which is what keeps me watching it.

I really want Nakai to get a lot of recognition for this role because he really does seem like a completely different person in that role. His voice is even different. I always wish Nakai acted more because he is really talented, but he just prefers variety.

Far from being a flop, especially when there is only one drama that earns higher rating than ATARU

THIS!!! People cant say its a flop when it has only been a few episodes.... Why dont we all just wait for the average rating at the end of the drama, shall we...

i knew the 3rd episode is not going to do as good when i watched it. it was fresh and promising during the first two episodes but during episode 3 the plot seems to replicate except that the guest characters are different.

anyway last night's ratings got up to 13.8%. and i guess Ataru takes the biggest credit for causing Fuji's lowest ever drama ratings, not that odagiri joe's acting is bad or anything though.

Since Ataru isn't on Fuji TV (It's a TBS drama) and doesn't star Odagiri Joe.

I was wondering about the high rating instead since, ...Oh, okay, it was the first episode.
The script sucked and so random (^^;

But, the lead, Nakai did well! OP's comment is so random \(~___~)/ Ikemen Desu Ne didn't really get high rating also.

i'm just about to say this...
if tama is so good in helping the rating (well, i can't deny he's popular tho), Ikemen won't be at average of 9.4% only...
i think a good drama is very much depends on the plot itself and how the actors really get into the character...
plus, it's impossible for tama to bring the role as good as nakai i suppose...
sometimes, people are sick with too much actors from the same agent being packed in one drama...
well, that's my opinion tho so no heart feeling....

Going on the ratings, even 10.9% at its current lowest is pretty respectable. There's definitely enough interest in the show's progress if it climbed back up to 13.8.

That being said, as the point has been made in previous drama posts, a good cast still can't save bad writing. As much as I tried to like NatsuNiji, I just couldn't. It averaged out around 12-13% so it wasn't *bad*, it just wasn't necessarily *good*. Should be interesting to see which direction Ataru goes.

*be amused by OP's desperate attempt to diss Nakai, praise Tama like he's the only man on earth and verbally attack anyone who doesn't agree with her* Seriously, if you think that rating is the only thing that reflects a drama's quality, then you'd better NOT touch any idol dramas, including Ikemen desu ne LOL And insulting Nakai's forehead unnecessarily won't help you save your Tama-chan's image either so can we stop here?

I really don't understand the hate in this post. Why do the International Johnny's fans just hate the sempai groups so much? Seriously, everyone gets older, just wait five years Arashi/News/Katun Fans cause those "boys" will be the same age SMAP are now and there are going to be younger girls stanning some other group and calling them old. Then eventually even the new kouhai's will be old one day too. Oh I so can't wait for that butthurt to happen.

Even Matchy-san looks fantastic for his upper 40's!

If OP is out to make enemies of Kisumai, then congrats, you're succeeding somewhat. Good thing the members themselves are nice, and I can't bring myself to dislike them. Yet.

*rewatches Nakai's dokkiri on Tamamori and Fujigaya with newfound sadistic enjoyment*

Your post is old news anyway, the rating this week rebounded to 13.8%. And there were way fewer scenes with Tama-chan compared to last week. Just saying.

People really need to stop comparing drama rating with who is starring on it. It's Nakai Masahiro, yes. He's a member from SMAP, yes. SO WHAT??

And he's looking fabulous for his age. Some people wish they had his looks when they reach his age!!

So haters... I feel sorry for you...
