GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka 2012 Promo


The first promo for the 2012 remake of the GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka Jdrama series starring Exile's band member Akira as the titular character. The series will premiere starting this July.

Miori Takimoto (Higanjima) will play the Azusa Fuyutsuki, and Hitomi Kuroki (20th Century Boys, Dark Water) will play Sakurai Ryoko, the principal who believes in Onizuka's teaching abilities.



GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka follows the story of Onizuka Eikichi, a graduate of a third-rate University and the leader of a motorcycle gang and have a lifelong dream to become a teacher. After being hired by a seemingly eccentric director, Onizuka begins his unconventional way of teaching a hopeless group of troublemakers.

The series will premiere on the Fuji TV network this July 3rd, and will run every Tuesdays at the 10 PM timeslot.

it doesn't look that interesting as compared to the original...it feels like the story has been recycled so many times before already.

I have never seen the first one and I probably will never see it because good quality videos from back then are hard to come by now a days ... but I am legit excited to see this drama!!! (I am naive and a noob to this drama)


Anyways, I will be watching it, I hope it makes me ugly cry throughout the series LOL~

You should watch the original. It's one of the best good old jdramas. I remember watching it together with siblings and we all love it. :)

I look foward to watching it and seeing how well this remake turns out. This trailor is ok. Kind of what I thought I'd see, but once we're into episode 4 I'll know if it ended up good or not.

I never actually watched GTO prior to the remake, so I wouldn't be biased to this drama compared to how I was to Hana Kimi.

All I have to say is...I'm happy AKIRA is playing a badass compared to that super nice teacher he played during Tumbling. >.>

Its actually not that bad. I have to watch the first episode before judging. I love the old one since its one of my first dramas so I might end up being biased to that... but we'll see. :))

It's the same deal with all remakes, Asian or Western: if you compare the two, you're gonna have a bad time~

I, for one, loved the original and I have faith that this remake's going to be reeeally good, solely because AKIRA is an amazing actor and the rest of the cast are just as great. Oh, and imagine if Akanishi Jin kept the part of Onizuka. Keep in mind that we dodged that bullet.

It's too early to tell, though, whether it'll be good or bad. We'll just have to find out in one more day. :3

one probably shouldn't compare the first GTO series and this one, but instead compare them to the manga. I must say that AKIRA looks way to scrawny in the promo to resemble the real Eikichi. Sorimachi wins in that aspect. And what's whith that stubble? Oh, and he looks too old, Eikichi's supposed to be 22.

This trailer makes me think, Don't we have enough dramas like this already? From what I hear, such thoughts would be doing the original a great injustice. :/

GTO was my first jdrama, and I loved it, but I'm not that excited for a remake. It hasn't been this long since the original, why does everything have to be remade?
