The Rise of The Female Wotas

Since the very beginning of idol genre decades ago, it was largely the following formula, guys support female idols and girls support Johnny`s.This was not a hard rule as girls in small packs have always supported the female branch , some decades more than others.
Today these tribes of female wotas are growing at a strong pace again, so get out your glow sticks, your idol colors and take a journey into the female wota world of female idol genre.

On the July 9th edition of the morning show, ZIP, they explored the growing number of female wota. With the popular AKB48 and the Momoiro Clover Z rising in popularity, so has the visibility of female wota.

* They polled 100 female wota on the street on their favorite idols and the top 5 were revealed.

1. Oshima Yuko (AKB48) - 10 votes
1. Itano Tomomi (AKB48) - 10 votes
1. Momota Kanako (Momoiro Clover Z) - 10 votes
4. Watanabbe Mayu (AKB48) - 8 votes
5. Ariyasu Momoka (Momoiro Clover Z) - 7 votes

* They noted the increase of a group of wota, which had only one female member in 2007, but by 2011, the number of women in the group had definitely increased.
* The visited the home of a Hello! Project female wota. There she showed off her merchandise
* They also took a look at the activities of female wota, from lengthy discussions to concert wotagei
* A look at the AKB48 cafe and shop in Harajuku that is overrun with females, as young as kids to grown women.

I'm sorry, I tried really hard to like AKB48 and Morning Musume.

Didn't work. Their style is really... off setting for me.

I'm no huge fan of Kpop but I'd take SNSD over any Japanese female idol, any day.

Non-Idols are <3 though.

E-Girls, Perfume <~3

There are many idol groups in Japan. Saying you hate Japanese female idol groups based on two groups is kinda ignorant.

Here's over 100 groups, take a pick http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4D4DE72264AA08BF

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I only mentioned those two because most people know them, but I do know about plenty more idols from HP, 48 franchise and all those other small time ones.

I've watched plenty of groups but I can't find myself appreciating their style enough. I guess the female Japanese idol group is just not for me. Well, idols in general. I like... KAT-TUN, Arashi and Yamapi and that's it. I don't even like most JE groups.

But thanks for the link~ I'll check and see if there are any more groups I like.~

Well, I do forget that I like Fairies... not sure if they are considered idol group tho. Oh, and like one song from Idoling.

I think you'd probably like predia. They're managed by the same company as PASSPO (if you know them), but have a more mature image. There's also some really good singers in the group. Here's a performance they did a few days ago at an idol event, it has several songs:

And here's a clip from a TV show they were on:

I think Fairies does count as an idol group as well.

Thank chuu~~ :* I'll check them out ;D Yeah, I know Passpo, didn't like them much :x

I know that Namie Amuro used to be in an idol group called Super Monkeyz, I actually liked them.

isn't Perfume considered an idol group tho?
kamelover101 11th-Jul-2012 04:59 am (UTC)
I don't think so.

I've seen plenty of people who've said that they aren't idols.

When they first debuted but now they're considered a electro-pop group or smth like that.

AKB does have a variety of songs in different genres though. Have you watched any stages? I think most AKB fans would say the theatre's where it's at (:

I've seen all of their PV's, and I'm not one of those kiddies who go "OMG sluts" or w/e, I don't mind their content or anything, I just can't find any to my liking :c About the only singer I like from AKB is Iwasa Misaki and her song Mujin Eki.

You can recommend me something though :)
jeauexe 12th-Jul-2012 07:42 am (UTC)
sorry for the late reply! anyway wasamin is great and mujin eiki is a great song so you have great taste :P there are other really great singers though so i'll link some here.

watching their PVs is a good start but stage songs are awesome so i'll link you a few here in a few different genres. since most of the singles are pretty idol-y and if you've watched the PVs you've heard a lot of that genre so i'll link songs from genres other than that (:

team songs:

- Korogaru Ishi ni Nare (as close as female idols get to doing rock)
- Mori e Ikou (i'm not sure what genre this song can be classified as but it's my favourite group song (: )
- Mr. Kissman (not sure what this genre is either, it's a bit more dance-y than the other two)
- Tomo yo (one of AKB's many graduation songs. they play their own instruments in this which is pretty cute)
- Kurumi to Dialogue (kind of off-beat. not too sure how to describe this song either man i am bad at descriptions)
- 100 Metre Combini (... eurobeat?)

unit songs:

- Dakishimeraretara (kind of got a rnb feel to it, more of a slow song and the choruses are lyrical masterpieces. it helps all three girls are pretty good singers. it's personally my favourite unit song/AKB song overall (: )
- Blue Rose (more of a rock number)
- Himawari (this is a very happy song? it always puts me in a good mood :3)
- Nakeru Basho (not quite a ballad, but a slow song containing most of the talented singers in AKB, imo)
- Seifuku Resistance (a dance-y song)
- Endroll (idk but this song contains spanish guitars and features four of the better dancers in AKB)

ok i think my team k bias is showing a little in this but yes, enjoy. let me know if you liked any! (:

Thanks~ I'm really pressed for time but I promise to give them all a try.

I think that AKB has some strong individual singers, but as a group they are vocally weak. I like Diva tho ;)
jeauexe 13th-Jul-2012 01:47 am (UTC)
Haha no worries :3 I had fun searching for them! just let them play as background music :P

yeah I agree, the strong singers unfortunately aren't the popular ones so yes. And I suppose the Japanese idol culture isn't too much about the singing, which is a shame bc some of the stronger singers in AKB are among my favourite members. Idk tho I got into AKB b most of them are hilarious and then I got into the music later (:

Both DIVA and DiVA are great! (':
