Our Queen just found out that Disney might misused her masterpiece

In her peaceful hiatus and occasionally witty tweets moments from Utada Hikaru, our Queen is a bit annoyed by the facts that Disney has used and modified her song "Sakura Drops" for a performance of Disney on Ice. Although the video is old, but it just came into Hikki's attention today.

So, what do you think, Arama? I think she has the right to be pissed, but to what level? This is an honest question.

Though I think she's gonna brush it off her shoulder like a Queen. But still...oh come on, she wrote two epic songs for Kingdom Hearts. She deserves a formal notice or anything that shows respect for her work.

Yep. They should've told her first. I mean, it's her song! Usually, you need permissions to use someone else songs right? And it's copyrighted too. So yeah. I can understand her feeling annoyed ^^

I never knew that Hikki didn't know about them using her song for Disney On Ice. When I watched the show, I was like "Whoa, Sakura Drops! Hikki is awesome!" when I saw that scene.

She has every right to be pissed - it's her song. Typically, you're supposed to ask permission before you do something like that. Not to mention they complete bastardized it - Hikki would have written better lyrics in English, no doubt. Considering she already wrote two beautiful songs in both English and Japanese for them, it's the least they could do.

I'm just going to ask. What if Disney got the song from her company? Like if Disney asked her company, they could have handed the song over without telling Hikki.

Her recording company? EMI? I've thought about it. But it's not like her company owned her songs. The copyright still belong to her, so if Disney legally bought or pay a royalty for it, for a public performance, there should be some kind of report sent to Hikki. She should know. If the record company really did that, than they're at fault.

honestly, she has the right to sue Disney for that. afaik she owns all the rights to this song, she wrote and produced it and with her status, i'd say she also owns the masters.

Before we take our pitchforks and torches against Disney, let's think about who actually owns the rights to the song. Yes, Utada Hikaru has partial ownership (intellectual copyright) since she wrote and produced it. But most likely the studio/company who released the single owns the legal rights.

Of course, she has every right to be pissed because they BUTCHERED a beautiful song. But I don't think she could do anything about it.

Anyway... Ugh... whoever sang it shouldn't have attempted to sing in Japanese... This is why most Japanese people think foreigners all sound like idiots when speaking the language.

THIS. A lot of people who put copyright notices on stuff {like a YT video with the lyrics to a song or something} usually don't state the artist, just the label. At least, that's what I've noticed. >.>

she is right to be pissed, the version is horrible and it´s her song. Even if she doesn´t own the copyright it´d be nice from the company to notify her.
