Popular idol group AKB48's new album 「１８３０ｍ」,released on Aug 15th, can be sold 625,401 units on the first day !! (It's very big sale)

Comparision with their last album Kamikyokutachi & Koko ni ita koto

Besides ,this album has initially 1.5 million units shipped exceeding 400k from their last album 「Koko ni ita koto」which was initially  1.1 million units shipped (Total sales :875,213 units)

I'm still new in Jpop, can someone tell me why AKB48 is so hot? Maybe their songs are great but i don't see that they have great talent, they seem like others Korean Girl Group. It's just my opinion, i don't really know them, tell me.

Their songs aren't that great (although they are catchy!), they don't have any talent, and they aren't that special. Don't think of them as musicians, since that's an insult to actual artists making music.

Think of AKB, instead, as *entertainment*. They sell like hotcakes because they're what's hot entertainment. Japanese culture is still obsessed with idols, so it becomes more about "which member do you like" and identifying with a member and their looks/personality rather than anything the group actually does in terms of music or performing.

Frankly I find their sales figures disgusting and depressing when you compare to the sales of real musicians.

But comparing them to mr. children and the thought of them surpassing them kind of makes me mad.

Actually isn't this only like AKB's second or third album? I'm not the biggest AKB fan, but their singles sales have always topped Arashi's in recent years and this Album will most likely blow Arashi's last album (which don't get me wrong sold like over million copies) out the water.

The OP though seems to be throwing a little shade at both Mr. Children and SMAP, what's up with that? AKB doesn't need to be touted up, they're already on top as far as sales figures go, this is not a surprise at all.

is arashi releasing an album this year?????
i mean its already august so when will it be......

also i cant judge if this album will sell a million unless i see the second day sales(i mean there is a chance that the fist day sales is outstanding and the rest of the week really really weak)

but im not saying anything bad as 30+ songs is a great deal for fans and the album's price is really CHEAP for 30+ songs

Your comment makes me take a look at the price and track list. Well, the price is just like any other album, but the track list is...long XD 38 songs, although few of them are just versions of another song.
Well, AKB has more members, so it's logical if they have mores songs....isn't it? :P

Idk, I think Arashi have enough singles for this year to compile it into an album, plus few new songs. But I think their schedules is already packed (plus the Arafes and fan votes thingy). So Idk, by the end of the year or early next year? Who knows?

I thought we were past the time of waaah why do they sell so much.

They have good marketing, they have catchy music. Fans of other artists bulk buy (and yes, once they get what they want, they pawn it off. It's no AKB alone). Just be glad there are artists (AKB, Arashi, Mr.Children, etc), keeping the physical sales afloat, because ain't nobody else getting close to that amount nowadays. It's sad y'all can't be happy the industry isn't tanking physically, when's the last time we had (potentially) 3 million selling albums in one year?

Also, it looks silly when you complain about it being an insult to real musicians/artists when you stan a JE group, last time I checked idols (including AKB), are on par with Disney celebs in Japan.

I'd be hypocritical as hell to get angry at AKB48 slaying the charts because they're not ~*real artists*~ when my ass is the main one happy when Arashi sells well.

I have nothing really against AKB, but personally I want Mr.Children to top the yearly album. You can argue about talent, but for me it's MisuChiru's 20th anniversary release(s). I want their milestone to shine.

Congrats to AKB tho for the weekly achievement.

Those old farts you mention is already a legend. It's insulting, dude. And, if AKB didn't have this graduation system, I wonder if they gonna last as long as Misushiru. That or most of them will turn into one of these your so-called old farts too someday. I'm not a hardcore fans of both groups, but your comments is annoying. At least be respectful.

No I remember when they could barely sell 20K for singles. The AKB girls have worked really hard to get where they are today
