Romantic Novel & Otome game, Brothers Conflict gets TV Anime

The November issue of ASCII Media Works' Monthly Sylph magazine is announced on September 22nd, that a television anime adaptation of Sylph's Brothers Conflict illustration and novel project has been green-lit. The original project centers around a girl who suddenly gains 11 stepbrothers — from 32 years old down to 11 years old — when her father remarries. She joins the Asahina family under one roof at the Sunrise Residence complex.

Udajo illustrated the original story and Takashi Mizuno created the scenario. Atsuko Kanase planned and developed the original concept.

The novel series launched in 2010, and ASCII Media Works published seventh book volume this past July. The project already spawned a two-part PSP game from Otomate for female players this past May, as well as a series of drama and character CDs.

The official Twitter account for the anime adaptation of Sylph's Brothers Conflict romance novel project confirmed the anime's staff on October 25th. The staff was announced earlier during the Dengeki 20th Anniversary Festival.

Jun Matsumoto (Night Raid 1931, Persona -trinity soul-) is directing the anime at the studio Brains Base (Baccano!, Natsume's Book of Friends, Durarara!!, My Little Monster). Natsuko Takahashi (07-Ghost, Moyashimon, Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru) is in charge of scripts, and Kumi Ishii (Oreimo, Red Garden, Rozen Maiden) is adapting the characters in Udajo's original illustrations for animation.

Is 2013 the year to take all the fujoshi's money? There's Brothers Conflict, Amnesia, Uta no Prince-same Season 2, and Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi

More than I want this to be a game, I want it to be an anime. Like a melding of Ouran and Fruits Basket.
yuliyudo 19th-Nov-2012 03:33 am (UTC)
But it IS going to be anime. The games are already there ^^;

^ Why fujoshi? None of these titles is BL ^^;
liime_arix 19th-Nov-2012 03:45 am (UTC)
I've heard fujoshi used to describe female otaku, not just the BL fans lol.
ethereal_limbo 19th-Nov-2012 03:55 pm (UTC)
fujoshi literally means rotten/fallen woman and is directed towards women with a liking to male homosexual relationships. a female otaku who doesn't care about the genre is not a fujoshi.

you still used it correctly in your op post, mostly because fujoshi love anime where there are a lot of guys (read: otome games, etcetera). there doesn't need to be yaoi, it's the fujoshi's job to make that up (whether through fanart, fanfics, doujinshi ...) . that's why whenever there's an anime with a large male cast fujoshi will automatically flock towards it and the makers will get that "fujoshi money". that's where the phrase comes from. kuroko's basket is a recent example. not yaoi at all but it's getting that fujoshi money either way.

i guess because most female otaku tend to like BL the two terms get intertwined with each other.
liime_arix 19th-Nov-2012 10:28 pm (UTC)
I know it's originally meant for BL fangirls, but I guess those two get intertwined like you said. Especially. But I mean that I've seen some people use it for female otaku. I guess the more correct and literal word would be オタージョ but I haven't seen that around.
kinari_pamyu 19th-Nov-2012 09:41 am (UTC)
liime_arix is correct - it can be used as a generic description of female otaku, but is more commonly associated with those of us who enjoy BL titles.

I would consider myself a fujoshi, but I still play otome games. Quite a lot of them have BL undertones, and there's sometimes a large quantity of BL fanart/fanfiction for certain titles (Uta no Prince-sama is an excellent example of this.)

Even if there wasn't - I'd still play them/buy the merchandise purely for some of the gorgeous art work :) (It's why I buy B'S Log and Dengeki Girl's Style as well as the BL-game centric Cool-B magazine. That and B's Log's excellent selection of omake.)

I wasn't saying that the definition is correct, but I *have* seen it used by other otaku/in articles in the past as a general term for female otakus regardless of their preferences.
ethereal_limbo 19th-Nov-2012 05:04 pm (UTC)
i'm merely surprised at how some people are using this as a synonym for female otaku. the name itself even says what it stands for.

fujoshi is a subcategory of female otaku, the same way car otaku and military otaku are subcategories of otaku.
kinari_pamyu 19th-Nov-2012 05:06 pm (UTC)
It is odd, but I've found that a lot of male otaku and non-fujoshis aren't particularly well versed in knowing the exact definition.

"Is 2013 the year to take all the fujoshi's money? There's Brothers Conflict, Amnesia, Uta no Prince-same Season 2, and Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi"

Anyone that played Utapri Debut and continues to support Broccoli/the series in general deserves to have their money milked out of them tbh. I mean, the first season of the anime did no justice to the game or characters in general, but Debut was the ultimate slap in the face to the fans.
liime_arix 20th-Nov-2012 11:26 am (UTC)
What was Debut like? I never tried it or even know the plot line. I really couldn't stand the anime. Like the main girl? So freaking annoying, how do you apply and get into an entertainment school with the idea of being a songwriter and you can't even read sheet music, you stupid girl. I have a lot of negative feels towards the heroine. Tomochika should have been the heroine.
morbid_lithe 20th-Nov-2012 03:14 pm (UTC)
I was indifferent towards Haruka because the anime really did her no justice, but she was actually a nice character in the games. Though I can respect not liking her because she can be pretty dumb.

Anyway, the plot of Debut was that all the idols were taking a master's course in order to debut. They were assigned a senpai to learn from and moved into a dorm with said senpai and their roomate from the first games. The game took place over 6 months, had little to no actual romance in the routes (what), was over the top angsty, and disregarded all character development from the first game and fandiscs. Not to mention they injected the game with BL overtones.

I played Natsuki's route first because he's my favourite character and ended up wanting to fling my psp across the room in rage at how awful it was. After that I just skipped through all the other routes to unlock the songs in practice mode because the music mini-game really was the only redeeming quality about this game (even though, once again, the difficulties are inconsistent).

There's a review of the game here if you want to read it. I really love the first game and the fandiscs, so I'm even more angry with how terrible it turned out to be because I actually pre-ordered and spent $100 on the LE box thinking it would be good. I've played some bad games in the past, but this is the first one that made me actually want my time and money back.
