Even with the anti-hallyu sentiment in Japan, Psy still ranked number 1 on YouTube Japan.

Japan internet news RBB Today revealed that Psy's "Gangnam Style" had ranked number 1 for most clicked video on YouTube Japan.

Also, Big Bang was seen on the chart at number 3 and Girls' Generation at number 8.

Last weekend I went to the All Night Nippon live in Yoyogi and the hosts, Hi-Hi, came out to Gangnam Style.

It took a moment to sink in, then to look around and see most of the people there going "Wtf." So I sang to it as loudly as I could.

love323able 21st-Dec-2012 02:32 am (UTC)

kawaii_beela 21st-Dec-2012 03:20 am (UTC)
oh ok. kool. thanks for telling me
love323able 21st-Dec-2012 03:44 am (UTC)
no problem
tho that doesn't mean that the ppl actually liked it lol
probably why it didn't sell much
cuizy 21st-Dec-2012 10:35 pm (UTC)
Maybe it's catching on now? At any rate I'm guessing most Japanese listen to it cuz it's so popular in the west
mushroomesque 22nd-Dec-2012 07:48 am (UTC)
It's really hard for a song to have high sales when it hasn't been released. It's played all over the place, though.

I totally don't understand about Psy's charm.. Could someone explain it to me?
daramji 21st-Dec-2012 03:44 am (UTC)
It's not charm per se....
nansuki 21st-Dec-2012 04:24 am (UTC)
It's not charm...?
Its just the "catchy song with the horsey dance."
I like the video & song, but I'm not a Psy fan nor will I look into his other songs.

Like, "Call Me, Maybe." Catchy as hell, but I don't really care much about Carly Rae.
cuizy 21st-Dec-2012 10:36 pm (UTC)
It's not even just the horse dance (I think)..... The entire video is apparently very funny to some people.

visionfactory1 21st-Dec-2012 03:12 am (UTC)
However it's not really popular in charts
ikutakashima 21st-Dec-2012 05:00 am (UTC)
i guess they're curious 'bout the song + pv & that's why they end up watching it.
eevaleena 21st-Dec-2012 09:54 am (UTC)
Exactly my thought!
cuizy 21st-Dec-2012 10:36 pm (UTC)
Cuz it's so wildly popular in the states haha
zeli17 21st-Dec-2012 05:34 am (UTC)
Psy's sales have been mostly digital, anyways. Part of why his physical sales in Japan haven't been high. Especially because those who get the most physical sales there now are groups that give something extra (tickets to concerts, handshake events, AKB48, etc).

I don't think he was extremely popular there, but I think the hatred is mostly media fabricated.

+100
most of it was stupid tho XD
kamelover101 21st-Dec-2012 06:15 am (UTC)
Strange coz it wasn't popular physically or digitally. Physical I understand but why not digitally? I'm guessing the clicks came from curious people.

Also the "anti-hallyu" rumor thing is a load of BS. Its called decline in interest of trend, not anti-Hallyu.

It wasn't popular physically or digitally because it's still not been released in Japan!
kamelover101 22nd-Dec-2012 07:52 am (UTC)
It did... On oricon it didn't have a local Japanese release like the other Kidols, but it did have its Korean album as a Japanese licensed import edition. It sold around 8k copies overall, hence why PSY and his company abandoned plan to release a local Japanese version of Gangnam Style called Roppongi Style.

And it was released digitally on itunes, still charting but at a low position from the starting. http://kworb.net/popjp/
mushroomesque 23rd-Dec-2012 03:01 am (UTC)
Check now - it's not on there. You can't purchase it, and for 95% of the time you haven't been able to.
kamelover101 23rd-Dec-2012 03:23 am (UTC)
Makes sense why it's charting at #28 on itunes Japan... NOT -_-

mushroomesque 23rd-Dec-2012 03:59 am (UTC)
That's not the song - that's a cover of the song!
kamelover101 23rd-Dec-2012 04:02 am (UTC)
Really? I wonder why they haven't uploaded the official song in Japan, its everywhere else.

Well it doesn't change the fact that his import version didn't do to great either.
mushroomesque 23rd-Dec-2012 04:57 am (UTC)
What import version ever has? If you look at Korean musicians when they've just debuted in Japan, often their sales are 10-20x what the import totals were, at least. I think only Girls Generation/Kara/Big Bang/JYJ have sizable import sales.
kamelover101 23rd-Dec-2012 04:59 am (UTC)
The thing is if Psy was such a hit people would have been lining and flocking to buy the album. It would have sold a lottt. PSY is not like a typical Korean act in Japan he =/= idol. Plenty of white artists have import sales of >100k or even more. LGs 2011 album sold like 500k
asth77 21st-Dec-2012 07:53 am (UTC)
that's cool
although I think that it's about curiosity for now
bu tit might be a good market for him and a nice trend in Japan.
harustyle 21st-Dec-2012 01:40 pm (UTC)
kyary at 2 and 5 you go girl
alyamoktar WOW!21st-Dec-2012 04:43 pm (UTC)
That's a major achievement for a Korean singer.
Good work!
cuizy 21st-Dec-2012 10:38 pm (UTC)
I just saw kame dancing to it the other day..... Maybe after months and months Japan is finally catching on? Haha
kamelover101 22nd-Dec-2012 07:54 am (UTC)
Possibly. Call me maybe became a hit only after it had fizzled out in the rest of the world.
