Fans are not happy with this year Johnny's Countdown!

31759_600

Many fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with this year Johnny's Countdown Live, the annual program that aired on Fuji TV on New Year's Eve.   And the main complaint about the show is the VTR segment of the program.

This year Johnny's Countdown was held in Tokyo dome with the participation of  Noriyuki Higashiyama, Masahiko Kondo, V6, Kinki Kids, Tackey & Tsubasa, Yamapi, NEWS, KAT-TUN, Hey! Say! JUMP, Johnny Jr. , ABC-Z for the first time in five years, Uchi Hiroki, Nakajima Kento, and  Nakayama Yuma.

Arashi, TOKIO, and Kanjani8 showed up on the venue's VTR only, and the usual emphasis "LIVE" displayed on the screen up until last year was gone.   Many fans feel for a program that claimed to be "LIVE",  this is really a shame.  On top of that, it lacks the hyper, energetic presence of TOKIO who usually worked up the crowd.  Instead the program featured too many of the "boring old men" Noriyuki Higashiyama and Masahiko Kondo.   There were also more  VTR performances of groups this year,  more than the collaboration between groups or group shuffles.   Many fans want to see more of the group shuffles because that has been the big charm of Johnny's Countdown.

Aside from Arashi who had to moderate NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen, TOKIO  should have been moved to the Countdown Live  after their performance from Kohaku.  So why didn't they?  Editors familiar with Johnny's talk about certain circumstances. Johnny's has become a house divided.  Iijima faction which includes mainly SMAP and the SMAP bartered, co-starring groups like Kis-my-ft2 and Yamapi.... Julie faction which includes Arashi, TOKIO and Kanjani8.   The bartered, co-starring groups and the groups plus individuals who stand on their own made up Johnny's Countdown.  Although Arashi had been hosting Johnny's Countdown before but there were speculations flying around that  Johnny's favorite, Kinki Kids, namely Domoto Tsuyoshi, looked like he was in a bad mood while performing further complicated the matter.

For Julie and Iijima factions, the main battleground is TV Variety show.  There is no longer a "royal road" that will lead to the Presidency.  Incidentally, on the  music show  hosted by Nakai "Tuesday music! SP" (broadcast on December 25), there was a Johnny's medley with SMAP followed by the younger generations in the back dancing to "SHAKE".  Takuya Kimura and Yamapi sang "Seishun Amigo".  And group shuffles were seen as Hey!Say!JUMP members smiling and  dancing in the back performing "NAI-NAI16" with Nakai, Kusanagi and Katori Shingo.   Many of the performances from Johnny's Countdown were seen and heard on that show.

I agree, this year sucked, but leave Matchy out of this he is awesome.

They need to fix their shit for '13-14 and this may sound weird but I kinda miss seein the random jr groups that performed in '11-12 like ?uestion even if one of those guys' faces weirded me out

and Yes TOKIO does hype up the crowd and Tsuyoshi did looked pissed in some parts of this year's JCD

and please bring back Toma...he can sing and dance too~

ETA: I've only seen '11-12, '12-13 fully and bits and pieces of others so I'm not entirely sure what went down in previous JCDs I'm just basing my opinion on the ones I've fully seen.

I have no patience to try to understand those Johnny's family fights but I dont mind the VTR, give the groups a break!
liime_arix 19th-Jan-2013 11:27 pm (UTC)
Matchy is flawless and can get it, even if he is 'old'.

I found the stage (whatever that big cluster fuck machine is) to be too distracting. I wish there were more shuffles, different songs to perform. At this rate, I know all the oldie goldies just from them being performed repeatedly.

Yes, they should bring back TOKIO. I think K8 at Kouhaku was a mistake since I don't think it really did anything for them.

Aren't there also older junior groups that they could have been highlighted? Even a little bit? I mean, I'm not going to stan them, but it'd be nice to see some fresh faces.
myharu 19th-Jan-2013 11:32 pm (UTC)
was Bakaleya6 on this year's JCD? I don't remember seeing them (cuz I was looking because I have yet to see them perform) and I wanted more shuffles too

and yes I'm trolling you with my icon

+1

Tsuyoshi expressed a LOT of times how scared he was of this year's stage ^^;
Also, people need to consider what is 'real' here: KinKi had a concert the day before, the very day, then after Countdown, Tsuyoshi still had to do his kogiri, and again a KK concert the day after.
I don't call all this 'being in a bad mood' XD
minam_shi 19th-Jan-2013 11:36 pm (UTC)
It can't be helped. There will always be fans to complain.
seelenlicht 19th-Jan-2013 11:41 pm (UTC)
I understand that it's impossible to satisfy everyone but this " Instead the program featured too many of the "boring old men" Noriyuki Higashiyama and Masahiko Kondo." Is just SO damn rude.
They both were flawless during the performances.

I really hate this "fighting" between Julie and Iijima .. I really wonder if some Groups will ever have the opportunity to work together .. for the time beeing it´s like Kanjani8/Tokio/Arashi and Smap/Kissmyft2 .. it´s kinda sad .. Johnnys doesn´t seem to be Johnnys like it was in the past and only because 2 are fighting .. I really want to know whats going on behind the scenes .. for JCD I found it also boring .. I enjoyed last years and the years before but for me it was like something was off this time .. something was really missing .. I can´t put it in words .. I liked the Groups on JCD and listen to them but the whole show missed the glow of the other times ..

This Iijima V Julie thing keeps on coming up. I wonder how serious it is.
xanithofdragons 20th-Jan-2013 01:23 am (UTC)
I doubt it's half as serious as the rumors make it out to be. :/
asth77 19th-Jan-2013 11:58 pm (UTC)
So I'm finally starting to believe into that Iijima vs Julie thing.
That always sounded like a bad manga script.
ambersolle 20th-Jan-2013 12:01 am (UTC)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who think that 2012-2013's JCC is boring. They need to bring back TOKIO and Eito for the next JCC.
kyun_spark 20th-Jan-2013 12:21 am (UTC)
2007-2008 JCD was the best in my opinion.. Everyone is in one place and no drama..

I was kinda disappointed with this years' JCD, because all my favorite groups were locked up in Kouhaku u__u

But biased aside, those three groups are the ones that can bring the hilarity and craziness in JCD. This year was too formal and organized..

On top of that, it lacks the hyper, energetic presence of TOKIO who usually worked up the crowd
this sentence somehow makes me happy.. those underrated ossans.. *sniffles*
2hothere 20th-Jan-2013 02:00 am (UTC)

I agree with you. 2007-2008 JCD was the best. Everyone was there. Arashi, TOKIO, Kanjani8. Jin was there with KAT-TUN. Yamapi was there with NEWS. Everybody was there as ONE big happy family.
haruno21 20th-Jan-2013 12:28 am (UTC)
CYZO.
and aside from that, idgaf about countdown LOL /runs/
joyeuxnoel 20th-Jan-2013 12:29 am (UTC)
I don't care about the Julie vs Iijima thing but if that's really the case then those two should get their act together.

I don't really mind having VTRs for the groups that were at Kohaku but I really if TOKIO was pulling double duty before, there's really no reason to stop now.

My big problem with the VTRs is that they kill the flow. You have medleys and mashups and then suddenly an almost complete song from the original group. It kind of kills the Countdown vibe. (I realize V6 did it with RYS but I'd rather things like that be the exception, not the norm.)

Either way though, I think Countdown's gonna get increasingly busy and disjointed just because the new groups just keep coming and it's not like there's there's a lot of JE retirements. There's just not really enough time to fit everyone in. :3 (Part of me feels that splitting the groups up between the two shows might not be a bad thing in the long term...)
kanbisenshi 20th-Jan-2013 12:48 am (UTC)
idk about the rest of this but i read a lot of "we don't need the boring old guys!!!" comments on twitter which pissed me off
exdream1999 About TOKIO and K8 (and also NYC....)20th-Jan-2013 12:48 am (UTC)
I think the main reason that TOKIO wasn't able to make it to the Countdown like before is that they didn't just play and run like they normally did.'

This year both K8, TOKIO and AKB were part of other performers' (usually Enka) perfomances, in an obvious ploy to get the younger people to want to watch something they normally wouldn't.

So, basically K8 and TOKIO probably didn't have the time to make it to the Dome because they were there much longer as audience draws.

Look at NYC, they performed at the beginning of the show and were able to make it back to the Dome.

tl;dr

I think the main reason K8 and TOKIO didn't make it to the Dome this year is that NHK decided they needed them to act as audience draws for "boring" acts.

Edit: And of course a lot of the shuffles and shit they did on the Xmas SP would be seen on the Countdown, because they probably had been rehearsing them for the Countdown.

myharu Re: About TOKIO and K8 (and also NYC....)20th-Jan-2013 01:45 am (UTC)
I pretty much thought this was the reason too although I still missed TOKIO's presence, but I think I missed the older Jrs acts more
crumplelush 20th-Jan-2013 12:49 am (UTC)
Energetic performance of Tokio? For the last few years Nagase has looked so bored that he literally looks like he'd prefer to be stapling his fingers to a desk than be there!
kochan_addict 20th-Jan-2013 12:49 am (UTC)
"Instead the program featured too many of the "boring old men" Noriyuki Higashiyama and Masahiko Kondo"
However said that should get a reality check. Those two were awesome (did anyone catch Matchy taking pictures of everyone FOR HIS PERSONAL USE XD) and every time someone calls Higashi "a boring old man", a puppy dies and a fairy loses its wings. Just saying.

That said, the VTR segments were really annoying this year because there was just too many of them. They broke the flow of the songs and shuffles and were just wrong.
Julie and Iijima need to take the stick out of their asses and once a year let all the groups have fun together, if not for the money than for the fans.
okadarei 20th-Jan-2013 11:50 am (UTC)
'every time someone calls Higashi "a boring old man", a puppy dies and a fairy loses its wings.'

THIS, so TRUE.
kyashiichan 20th-Jan-2013 01:12 am (UTC)
I was satisfied with this year's Countdown for the reasons stated in the OP.
hana8796 20th-Jan-2013 01:19 am (UTC)
Again with the factions :/ Don't think they'll be going away any time soon, though.

I went to see Countdown live, and I have to say that the huge moving tower thing at the beginning was so annoying. Some groups were easy to see, others I had to search for by recognizing costumes before I could finally see anyone. The VTR segments were pretty boring, and I ended up just watching the guys that were waving and on standby. Tsuyoshi didn't seem to be in a bad mood at all when the camera was off, and "boring old men"...just no. They were awesome, and Matchy being scared of heights before the show started was hilarious.
blahblah 20th-Jan-2013 01:23 am (UTC)
I think that it would be much better if the groups that couldn't make it didn't appear at all. To watch them singing and performing their own songs, I'd watch any music show... I was utterly disappointed without any craziness from Kanjani8. And TOKIO was so normal... You couldn't see the flavor of each group. And they're obviously tired.
Fools!!! Matchy & Higashiyama are flawless! I love them performing with their kouhai <3 And I loved that Tackey & Tsubasa were there since the beginning... I really don't like those splits!
xanithofdragons 20th-Jan-2013 01:29 am (UTC)
Oh God, does this ridiculous factions rumor have to be involved in EVERY Johnnys rumor now? I'm getting so sick of the tabloids dragging it into everything.

The biggest thing that bothered me about this year's countdown was the camera work. It felt like the performers were barely shown a lot of the time because they were zooming out on the staging too much. :/
2hothere 20th-Jan-2013 02:36 am (UTC)

LOL @ "boring old men" Higashiyama and MATCHY...XD
