If these girls don't know what an oiran is, then they need to go back to high school and retake Japanese history!

By which I mean that, yes they are aware of what an oiran is. Oiran were considered idols back in the Edo period and most of those famous Ukiyo-e paintings people think of are geisha are actually of Oiran.

Fun fact: Women mimiced this fashion back when it started in the Edo period.
