EMI Japan explains why they chose SHINee

“Korean Idol Groups Appeal with High Quality Music”

SHINee, an idol group to make an official debut in Japan in March, have chosen as their partner EMI Japan, a company known for producing Utada Hikaru called national singer of Japan. Miyake Akira, who discovered and promoted Utada, will also be the producer for SHINee. After attending SHINee’s solo concert, he said he’d like to promote SHINee as an all-Asian pop group.

- Why SHINee?
“I met them in Korea twice. They were fresh. I didn’t hesitate to make my decision to work with them. They are versatile, they can do different genres like ballad and dance, and each member has a different musical style. There are many groups with manly and strong images, but SHINee will appeal to the protective instinct of fans with their sensitive and cute images.”

- The main target?
“Beyond the existing fanbase of Korean Wave, women of 30~50s, young women of 10~20s are showing explosive responses to them. SHINee is a rare idol group with sustainable contents such as good singing ability, purity, and creativity. It is unusual to make a successful concert even before an official debut and to fill the two and half hour concert only with performances. “

- What is the strength of Korean idols?
“Korean idols appeal with their music, not just with constructed talents. Their musical ability and quality is much better than that of Japanese idols, and Korea has a more advanced training system. They come into the market in a perfectly prepared state.”

- Your future plan?
Only the debut date has been confirmed. What is certain is that SHINee can’t be defined just as K-pop or J-pop, but will be Asian Pop, that is, A-pop. They will make a success in the Asian pop market after taking in new things from Japan after their debut.

AKB48’s upcoming documentary decides its theme song

tokyohive previously reported that girl group powerhouse AKB48 would be featured in a documentary titled, “DOCUMENTARY of AKB48 to be continued 10 nengo, Shoujotachi wa Ima no Jibun ni Nani wo Omou no daoru?“, which is scheduled for a January 22nd release.

With a plethora of songs to choose from, many have been wondering which popular hit would become the theme song for the film. As it turns out, it’ll be none of the fan favorites.

Instead, the documentary will receive a brand new track from AKB48 producer, Akimoto Yasushi. The song’s title is “Shoujotachi yo“, and it’s been described as a cheerful and positive track.

At this time, there’s no word on whether or not the song will be released. So for now, fans will only be able to listen to it at the movie theatres. The song will be used in the ending credits, which contains a video of the members during the recording.

Singer IMALU announced on the 20th that she would be collaborating with… Spongebob Squarepants along with world famous fast food restaurant chain McDonald’s.

Beginning on the 21st, all Japanese McDonald’s will include Spongebob Squarepants toys in their Happy Meals for a limited time. The popular fast-food restaurant has also planned to carry out some special events in order to promote their first collaboration with Spongebob, including commemorative stationary, a mook (magazine-book) and a special “talk show “featuring singer IMALU held on January 20.

IMALU studied abroad in Canada for three years during her high school years and often watched television while she was there, becoming well-acquainted with the character Spongebob Squarepants from the eponymous American cartoon. IMALU responded when asked to explain Spongebob’s charm stating, “I’ve known the characters since I was child living overseas up until now as an adult, so I know them well. I love Spongebob, who has so many different facial expressions and is constantly happy!” She also commented with a smile, “Oddly enough, it wasn’t until now that I wanted to do this.

When asked about her memories of the worldwide fast-food chain, IMALU mentioned that she often went to McDonald’s as a child and while living in Canada. “When I was little, I got really excited when we went through the drive-through. I wanted to order from inside the car,” she recalled. IMALU also appeared delighted by the special Happy Meal toys. “I’m so excited! They’re super cute! The toy that talks using Spongebob’s voice is gonna entertain all the little kids,” she exclaimed, failing to contain her excitement about the toy she held in her hand.

The singer will make a special appearance in the Spongebob mook and will also promote the collaboration through exclusive McDonald’s events nationwide.

“Green Hornet” director wants Shinohara Ryoko in his next film

Actress Shinohara Ryoko appeared as a special guest at a PR event for the upcoming Hollywood movie, “Green Hornet“, starring Seth Rogen and Jay Chou.

Joined by director Michel Gondry, the celebrities had a lot of fun greeting 1,200 fans at the event. They started off by making green mochi (rice cake), then got surprised by the appearance of beautiful Shinohara.

Shinohara’s thoughts about the movie were: “It’s a really fun movie! I was expecting a thrilling story, but I actually kept laughing throughout the movie. The quarrel scenes between those two made it especially impossible not to laugh.” Cameron Diaz also appears in the movie, and Shinohara revealed that she’s a big fan of her’s. “She’s my favorite actress. I’ve basically seen every single movie of her’s. She has so much charm,” she said.

Director Michel Gondry, on the other hand, was quite smitten by Shinohara’s charms. “She really is beautiful,” he said with an excited voice. “Even my voice is shaky because she is just too beautiful. I would really love to get her for my next movie, even though I usually don’t choose by appearance.”

“That’s why I got chosen,” Seth Rogen interrupted.

The director continued to praise her and said, “She does have a close resemblance to French New Wave actress, Anouk Aimée.”

“Green Hornet” will open in Japan on January 22nd.

Is this movie any good or has it not come out yet...?
