Ikuta Toma & Yoshitaka Yuriko attend pre-screening event for “Bokura ga Ita”

On January 30th, Ikuta Toma and Yoshitaka Yuriko attended a pre-screening event for their upcoming film, “Bokura ga Ita“, at the Roppongi Hills Arena.

Ikuta expressed, “I want people to remember their youth and watch this movie with a smirk.” Yoshitaka added, “It really does make you want to smile. It should ring the bell within your heart.”

“Bokura ga Ita” tells the love story of a couple who first met in high school; it continues to follow their lives over a period of 10 years. Ikuta plays the role of ‘Yano Motoharu’, a popular guy with a shadow in his heart while Yoshitaka plays ‘Takahashi Nanami’, who continues to love Yano wholeheartedly.

The movie is based on Obata Yuki’s popular manga of the same title, which has won “The 50th Shogakukan Manga Award“. It will be jointly distributed by Toho and Asmik Ace, and will be released as a two-part film.

The first part of the movie is set during the couple’s high school days. Ikuta commented, “We played our roles from high school to the ages of 24 or 25, so I want to show everyone Yano’s history and growth.” Mischievously, he commented, “Yoshitaka-san looked good in an uniform.”

Yoshitaka returned the compliment with, ”Ikuta-san in uniform was fresh, he looked handsome.” She continued, “I went to high school part-time, so I was able to fully experience student life [through this film].”

Director Miki Takahiro, who also attended the event, commented, “These two were the perfect pair, it’s as if they’re truly dating. Although they’re not dating, they were so close that I had to ask them, ‘Could you hold back a little?”

He also expressed satisfaction in the movie as he stated, “I talked things through with Obata-sensei to make sure the direction of the manga and movie were going in the same direction. I think it turned out to be a movie that will make you want to fall in love.”

“Bokura ga Ita Part 1″ will be released on March 17th, and “Bokura ga Ita Part 2″ will open in theaters on April 21st.

akb48's enka princess prays for solo debut success

On January 31st, AKB48 member Iwasa Misaki prayed for the success of her solo debut single, “Mujin Eki“, at the Senjo-ji Temple in Tokyo. Reports say that she prayed for approximately 20 minutes in the main temple, wearing a red, elegant kimono.

Afterwards, Iwasa held a release event at the Shinbashi SL Hiroba, attracting a crowd of 3,000 fans. “I’m Iwasa Misaki, the first enka singer from AKB48,” she said. “Please treat me well!“ She then went on to perform both her debut song and its coupling track, “Heavy Rotation (Enka version)“, for the very first time.

During an interview before the event, Iwasa revealed that Akimoto Yasushi had composed the song for her. “Akimoto Yasushi-sensei told me that he wrote this song for the Iwasa of 30 years from now. In 30 years, I’ll be 47-years-old. That’s older than my mom right now. It’s hard to imagine…”

The idol received a delightful surprise when she was presented with a cake celebrating both her debut and her 17th birthday (January 30th). “I’m very happy!“, she beamed. “This year is my final year in high school, so I want to take the advantage and wear my uniform pointlessly before it becomes ‘cosplay’.”

Miyake Ken has a sleepover with Oya Kana

Tabloid magazine Josei Seven caught V6's Miyake Ken (32) out on a date with popular model Oya Kana (24) last Friday. A "reporter" from the magazine found Miyake walking proudly without any disguise when he met up with the model. Apparently the two have known each other for a while through mutual friends and bumping into each other at various club events, although they had only began dating last fall.

The couple was last seen walking together before heading back to Oya's home. It is assumed that they spent the entire night there.

Miyake has occasionally been reported to be seen on dates with female celebrities in the past but this is his first rumor of a relationship since his highly publicized relationship with popular singer Amuro Namie and prior to that, dating former Morning Musume member Ishikawa Rika.

In the year 2141, Japan successfully builds a basic time machine that can send data to the past. However, an evil organization further develops the technology, making it possible to send objects back in time as well. The organization begins a plan to send 5 terrorists back to the year 2012 in order to assassinate the ancestor of an important person from their time. The future government, alerted to this fact, uses its time machine to notify the government of 2012 about the plot, telling them to recruit 5 people in order to seek out the terrorists.

The government in the present day (2012) decides to choose 5 ordinary youngsters, including the unemployed Kakizawa Yuichi (Maruyama). He suddenly finds himself teamed up with the Internet-addicted Asuka (Ito Ayumi), the hikikomori Yuma (Sometani Shota), a former university professor (Kawashima Junya), and a mysterious young woman named Yuki (Kutsuna Shiori).

Other cast members include Takanashi Rin, Fukikoshi Mitsuru, and Yoshida Kotaro.

The drama’s title is an abbreviation of the phrase “out-of-place artifacts,” referring to objects from the future brought to the present day that do not belong there.

Emperor to undergo heart test on Feb 11

Emperor Akihito is to undergo another heart exam next week, a palace official said Wednesday, amid increasing worries about the monarch’s health.

The angiogram of his coronary arteries, scheduled for Feb 11, comes after Akihito’s electrocardiogram showed a restricted blood flow to his heart.

The 78-year-old emperor went through the same test a year ago at the University of Tokyo hospital, which found his arteries were narrowing, leading to his being placed on medication, according to the palace official.

In November, Akihito was hospitalized for 19 days for mild pneumonia.

Akihito, who ascended to the throne in 1989 following the death of his father Hirohito, underwent surgery for prostate cancer in 2003.

Doctors had also previously found traces of bleeding in the emperor’s stomach, partly due to stress.

The emperor’s second son Prince Akishino in November suggested there should be a discussion about setting a retirement age for the titular head of state.

Despite being stripped of much of its mystique and its quasi-divine status in the aftermath of World War II, the Japanese throne is held in deep respect by much of the public.
