‘Marching J’ performs with 180 members and attracts 173,000 fans to their Tokyo Dome event

In the afternoon of March 11th, Johnny’s Entertainment’s charity project ‘Marching J’ began with 180 members from various groups such as Kondo Masahiko, Higashiyama Noriyuki, SMAP, Tackey & Tsubasa, Yamashita Tomohisa, Hey! Say! JUMP, Sexy Zone, as well as Johnny’s Jr. members. The event attracted 173,000 fans to Tokyo Dome. The talents, who could not participated in this event, such as Arashi and Kanjani 8, sent in video messages.

At 2:46 pm, Kondo (also known as Matchy) called out to the fans, “Exactly a year ago, the whole Japan was distraught with grief, and many lives were sacrificed. I would like to stand in silence for a minute with everybody here.” The crowd complied and at that moment, a silence hung over the Tokyo Dome.

During the event, Kondo held a press conference announcing that they had raised a total of 826,553,991 yen (approximately $10,020,051 U.S. dollars) from their entire Marching J project, which was started in April of last year. All the donations from Marching J will be sent towards children funds established by Miyagi, Iwate, and Fukushima.

Kondo stated, “We will deliver all the donations to the last yen to Tohoku responsibly.”

At first, there was a plan to spend a portion of the donations to invite Giant Panda from China to the zoo in Sendai. However, they have since changed the plan. Now, Johnny & Associates, Inc. and its associated companies will cover all the expenses on their own.

Though they will continue their support for sending materials, this marked the last official fundraising event. At the end of the event, Kondo stated that “Marching J will continue our support for Tohoku.”

Nishino Kana sets digital record with 10 #1 consecutive singles

Nishino Kana's new single, "SAKURA, I love you?" has reached the top spot on Recochoku's weekly singles download chart. This feat has snagged Kana a new digital record, being the first artist to have ten consecutive #1s on the chart.

Also, the ringtone version of "SAKURA, I love you?" hit the top spot on Recochoku's ringtone chart. This has given Kana her 8th consecutive weekly #1 ringtone hit, the most for a female artist.

With lyrics about being caught between her last and current boyfriends, Kana covers new ground in the song. Released on March 7, the physical release saw the phrase "Imakareha? Motokareha?" (referring to the confusion of which boy to be with) flying around SNS sites like Twitter.

Also, a "SAKURA, I love you?" application for smartphones was released on the 7th, the first song application that Sony Music has put out. With the application, one can create a slideshow of photos featuring the "SAKURA, I love you?" background music. It also features special photos of Nishino Kana in unseen poses.

Kis-My-Ft2 turn into girl band for new commercial

Seven beautiful girls will appear in a new chewing gum commercial this week, but the secret is the girls are actually Kis-My-Ft2, reports Chunichi Sports.

The seven members were at an event in Roppongi, Tokyo on March 8, where they talked about dressing in drag for their Watering Kissmint commercial. Kis-My-Ft2 members had stayed in hair and makeup for more than an hour to be transformed from boys into girls. Group member Taisuke Fujigaya had said he was blown away by his transformation.

“When I looked at myself in the mirror, I was in shock. I thought I looked really pretty,” he said.

“Your face was so pretty,” Takashi Nikaido said.

Hiromitsu Kitayama said even the production staff thought Fujigaya and Yuta Tamamori looked pretty, but he had a different opinion about his own face.

“I was the splitting image of my mum. I wonder whether she looked like me when she was young…”

Kitayama had also said the group shot photos with their “kissing face” on, which will be used as one of the product’s commercial posters.

“It was embarrassing but I hope the girls who look at it like it,” he said.

The topic stayed on kissing as Tamamori and Fujigaya took the chance to promote the chewing gum.

“I brush my teeth before a kissing scene during a drama shoot. I hope all of you keep kissmint in your pocket just in case the opportunity comes up,” Tamamori said.

“There are four flavours, maybe it’s a sign if you meet someone who has the same flavour as you,” Fujigaya said.

Commericals will be uploaded on March 13 around 10am Japan time.

Temple Students And Professor Compose Song For 1-Year Anniversary Of Japanese Earthquake

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - To mark the one year anniversary of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, a Temple University professor collaborated to create a song and animated video to encourage those who are still dealing with its aftermath.

“‘Fukkatsu No Uta,” that’s the Japanese title. The English translation is ‘The Song of Rising.’”

Temple grad Naoko Masuda says the idea for the song came a few weeks after the tsunami, when she and a few friends hosted a Japanese-style party for Temple professor Jack Klotz. When the group told Klotz how the disaster impacted their families and friends in Japan, Klotz, who is also a musician, says he was moved.

“Our new friends’ story made all those horrific images we were seeing last year, it gave them all a more personal quality. We wanted to send a message, you know, don’t give up! You can get through this. “

So Klotz worked with Masuda and her friends from Japan to produce the song. Masuda then worked to create an animated video that translates the Japanese lyrics.

“It’s important for people who are really affected by it to know that people outside of Japan pay attention to what’s still going on,” says Masuda.

Klotz and Masuda say they hope to use the song and video to get donations for Temple Japan students affected by the disaster. To watch the video, visit (Through this link, in the info, you can also donate whichever amount you desire, and you'll get a free download of the song!)

Since there was a post like this earlier, I decided to share this one too! This is from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which I attend. I also participated in the project by providing my vocals for the chorus along with many others~ Temple University is also known for having a campus in Tokyo, so we had several students who were directly affected by the disaster, they completely lost everything as well for the lives of some of their relatives. Temple U has helped out a lot by contributing towards Japan, and we still hold several fundraisers to help with all the people who are still suffering. I hope you like it!

Keiichiro Koyama says meeting earthquake victims made him grateful he was in Johnny’s

The first time NEWS member Keiichiro Koyama stepped foot into the disaster zone following the Tohoku earthquake was on March 27. Although the Johnny’s talent already has a busy schedule, he pushed for the opportunity, saying he wanted to go there and tell people what it is really like. As a news reporter for “news every”, Koyama has been to the disaster zone more than 20 times in the past year.

Magazine Josei Seven‘s March 22 issue reports on Koyama’s experience in the Tohoku region.

“I’d only seen the images on TV, but when I got to the disaster zone, I could see that everything all around me had been damaged. When I thought about the people who lived their lives here, I got so scared my legs would shake and it was impossible to say anything while keeping a straight face. But I also knew that it was my job to describe what had happened. I knew that going there once or twice wouldn’t be enough, I needed to keep going.”

Koyama also said he was nervous about interviewing survivors.

Now, 4-nin NEWS, come back already!!

AKB48 is going to DC; performing at a festival, visiting the little kiddies

After a quick look at AKB48’s infectiously cheery music videos, it’s easy to see why they’re one of the highest-grossing musical acts in the world, earning $200 million in 2011 CD and DVD sales alone. To put that in perspective, Style Blog recently posted that Taylor Swift was Billboard’s top-earning artist in 2011 at a paltry $35 million by comparison.

The group was founded in 2005 by producer Yasushi Akimoto, who wanted to form a theater-based pop group that would perform every day for fans. They were named after the Tokyo area Akihabara, where their theater remains. The group started with 20 girls, and has steadily expanded, to as many as 90 members, by some accounts. Officially, there are currently 57 girls, divided into four teams — one of which will be performing at the Cherry Blossom Festival.

In a concert celebrating Japanese pop culture, 16 members will perform two shows at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington on March 27 (at 4 and 7:30 p.m.). It’s the group’s first trip to D.C., part of a tour to thank Americans for their support during the 2011 Japanese earthquake. Tickets, which will be available on Eventbrite beginning March 13, are free. The performers will also visit the District’s Thomson Elementary School.

The women of AKB48 won’t find our schools to be unfamiliar, though — looking at their music videos, it seems as though many of them were filmed in look-alikes of American schools, complete with the familiar tropes: Cheerleaders, basketball courts, and of course, 57 uniformed schoolgirls dancing in perfect unison.

Ikimonogakari's NEWTRAL Tops Oricon Again!!

Popular trio pop/rock band Ikimonogakari's 5th album "NEWTRAL" continues to sell very well on its 2nd week of sales, claiming the number 1 spot on the Oricon weekly charts once again, selling 83,000 copies. Together with their 1st week sales, this totals up to 276,000 copies.

With just 83,000 copies sold, they already outsold the 1st week sales of other popular artists' work like Jin Akanishi's "JAPONICANA" and SCANDAL's compilation album "SCANDAL SHOW".

However, this is nothing new to Ikimonogakari. Their 4th album "Hajimari no Uta" and their compilation album "Ikimonobakari ~Members Best Selection~" managed to top the Oricon weekly album charts 2 weeks in a row as well.

That's not all! The success of this album further raised the sales of their compilation album "Ikimonobakari ~Members Best Selection~", which is released way back in November 2010. Though it's still charting well last week at #51, it managed to rise to #38 this week, bringing the total sales to 1,338,000 copies and back in the Oricon's weekly top 50. With this, the album has charted for 71 weeks, and won't be dropping off anytime soon.
