AkiP "Takes Full Responsibility" for Acchan's Graduation + her debut song moves up on oricon

Sponsors, advertisement agencies and record company were surprised by Maeda Atsuko's graduation announcement.
Usually I'm supposed to be the one making all the arrangements,
but it turned out like this because I let Maeda make the final decision.

I think she was able to do it without hesitation and confusion because I told her, "Don't think about anything else and decide for yourself."

I would like to apologize to all the staff.
I will take full responsibility.

But her smile was so refreshing - wasn't it great?

I am writing this because I've been getting an earful at meetings about commercials and CD releases, after the graduation announcement hype calmed down a bit.

Maeda Atsuko’s solo song moves up on Oricon
The Maeda Atsuko effect is currently taking place on Oricon. After she announced she would be graduating from AKB48, the solo single she released last June, titled “Flower”, moved up on Oricon’s Daily Ranking.

The previous day, “Flower” was ranked outside of the top 100, but after the announcement it jumped up to #31. It has been 238 days since Maeda’s single was last in the top 50, and it seems to be blooming a second time after her announcement.

In addition, AKB48’s songs like “GIVE ME FIVE!” and “Everyday, Kachuusha” have also moved up in rank.

Yamapi will Have His First Radio Show

Warner Music Japan announced that Yamashita Tomohisa will have his first radio show. His upcoming radio show will be called "Yamashita Tomohisa Cross Space" on Tokyo FM (JFN48). The said radio show will start on Apr 6th, it will air every Friday night from 11:30 to 11:55 PM.

Yamashita chose the title "Cross Space" to reflect the new facets that will be brought to light through exchanges between himself and the guests, as well as himself and the viewers.

There is no news as to whom his first guest will be, but this is something new to YamaPi because aside from radio guesting and occasional hosting with other talents, he has never had radio program on his own.

Weekly Oricon Chart: Albums/Singles/Music-DVDs

Johnny's group, Kis-My-Ft2 who debuted last year with the single "Everybody Go," have topped the singles chart with "SHE! HER! HER!", making this their 3rd consecutive no.1 single. The title track is the theme song for their CM "Watering KISSMINT" in which the group members pose as girls. Their first album, "Kis-My-1st" will be released on March 28th.

Meanwhile, rock band Janne Da Arc's vocalist, yasu has achieved his 1st no.1 album with "『2012』" with his solo project, Acid Black Cherry. This is his first no.1 album in 13 years on a major label. Either for Acid Black Cherry or Janne Da Arc, the highest placement they have achieved previously was no.2. This album follows the 5 singles in 5 consecutive months campaign starting with "Pistol", "Shangrila", "Chou", "CRISIS", and "Yes", for a total of 16 tracks.

In the DVD chart, popular Johnny's group, Kanjani8 have now become the highest-selling male artist in the first week in Blu-Ray Disc history so far by selling 44k copies of "KANJANI∞ GO-DAI DOME TOUR EIGHTxEIGHTER Omonnakattara Dome Suimasen." The previous record was set by Mr.Children in November 2011 with "Mr.Children TOUR 2011 "SENSE"" which sold 43k copies of Blu-Ray Disc in the first week. Kanjani8 have also grabbed the no.1 spot for overall DVD, and by topping the DVD and BD charts simultaneously, are now only the 4th male artist to do so besides Mr.Children, RADWIMPS and EXILE, for a DVD+BD total of 204k copies

This DVD/BD was recorded during Kanjani8's 5-Dome Tour last year, including the New Year Countdown performance in Kyocera Dome, ushering into their 8th anniversary. From setlist to footage, costumes, down to the smallest details including huge balloons, pillar of fire and fountain, which concluded with a dynamic live production, are all produced by the Kanjani8 members themselves. The Limited Edition of the DVD includes Christmas performances from Nagoya Dome, MC digest from each leg at each venue, surprise footage from Tokyo Dome, and other unpublished backstage footage.

Posting the top 30 albums/singles and the top 10 music-DVDs. The second column in the top 10 refers to sales in 2012. New release in bold.

Results of the 2012 February ‘TV Celebrity Image Survey’ revealed

Earlier this week, Video Research Ltd. released the results of their influential ‘TV Celebrity Image Survey‘, which is conducted twice a year (February & August).

Aside from researching the official TV audience ratings, Video Research Ltd. often conducts image and popularity surveys related to various topics concerning people, products, and characters appearing on TV and radio. One of those surveys is the well-known ‘TV Celebrity Image Survey’, which analyzes the awareness, popularity and image of 1,000 celebrities that regularly appear on TV. The February 2012 ranking marks the 79th time that they’ve conducted this particular survey.

The results can be very influential, as industry officials often include this data when deciding the cast of new shows, dramas/movies, and commercials. While the detailed information only is available for their official partners, such as all the TV networks, they always release the top 50 of the general popularity ranking to the public. The popularity rating displays how many of the 1,130 people (565 for the male ranking, 565 for the female ranking) who took part in this survey and whether they chose “I like him/her a lot” or “I like him/her a little” for the respective person.

This time actor Abe Hiroshi came out on top of the male ranking. He already had been within the top 3 for the previous two rankings released in 2011 and the last time he actually topped the ranking was in the August ranking of 2010. Fellow actor Watanabe Ken also reached a new record high, but unfortunately he still barely missed a place inside the top 10. Child actor Suzuki Fuku was included in the survey for the first time and already became the 23rd most popular male celebrity on TV.

In the female ranking, figure skater Asada Mao once again claimed the top position after dropping out of the top 5 in the August ranking of 2011. She also topped the ranking in the previous February ranking. In second and third place ranked the actresses Ayase Haruka (last time: 4th) and Amami Yuki (last time: 2nd). A big jump towards the upper ranking was achieved by actress Aragaki Yui, who improved herself by six ranks and entered the top 10 for the first time in her career. One of Japan’s best female football players, Sawa Homare, also ranked inside the top 10, even though this is the first time she was included in the survey.

Ueto Aya appears as a surprise guest at 'SPRiNG Collection 2012'

On March 28th, actress Ueto Aya appeared as a surprise guest at the 'SPRiNG Collection 2012' fashion show organized by fashion magazine 'SPRiNG'.

'SPRiNG' is a magazine that created the term and fashion style 'nachukawa' ('natural kawaii'), which refers to a style that is both natural and pretty/cute. The magazine invited 500 of their readers to this fashion show, which included live performances and a live talk show hosted by comedy group Wagaya.

Towards the end of the show, Ueto Aya appeared as a secret guest, and presented the latest trend for the spring/summer collection, which combines a feminine and classic style. Her outfit was a border one-piece by fashion label 'To b. by agnes b.' The audience enthusiastically welcomed the actress, who blew a kiss to them in return. "You are so kind," she said. "Thank you very much. I love you!"

During the live talk she revealed, "I'm usually wearing nachukawa outfits in private, I'm not into too elegant clothes."

Wagaya responded, "You're such a cutie, you can probably wear anything. You would even look stylish dressed like Hadaka no Taisho (khaki shorts & white tank top)."

They also asked her to tell them the secret behind her beauty and she explained, "When I have a day off, I either go have a lava bath, go to the gym, or do some yoga. I always make sure to do something that is good for my body."

Her close friend Becky also attended the fashion show as a guest. "We often go and have a walk together around Shibuya, Daikanyama, and so on," Ueto revealed. "We also like to go shopping at Marui or Parco."

"Aren’t people there surprised?" Wagaya asked. "The employees sure must be on the verge of fainting seeing you two in person."

Ueto replied, "They barely recognize us, although Becky is not even trying to hide her identity." The audience couldn't believe their ears.

At the end, she once again thanked the audience for the warm welcome. She revealed that she was very nervous before coming out on the runway, since she hasn't been on one for a very long time. "My upper lip is always protruding when I'm walking," she said embarrassed. "However, all of you welcomed me in such a kind way and Wagaya did a nice job heating up the atmosphere beforehand."

Other guests included JUNO, Kawaguchi Haruna, and more.

Five Johnny's Talents Called-In for a Private Dinner

Julie Keiko Fujishima, President of J-Storm and niece of Johnny's and Associates President-Johnny Kitagawa, hosted a private dinner for five of Johnny's talents, Weekly Bunshun and Johnnys-Watcher reported.

The attendants are Kanjani8's Ryo Nishikido and Ryuhei Maruyama, Arashi's Satoshi Ohno and Masaki Aiba, and KAT-TUN's Junno Taguchi.

Julie Fujishima also invited over 20 members of press from TV and women's magazine in a dinner held at a Chinese restaurant in Azabu Juban district. According to the article, the center of the discussion was unclear but the invitees are five of Johnny's talents who will be having a drama this April. Nishikido with "Papa wo Idol", Ohno with "Locked Room", Aiba with "Miki-neko Holmes no Suiri", Junno with "Legal High", and Maruyama just finished his starring role in "O-Parts" and was also casted in "Strawberry Nights".

Press attendees said that the dinner has been very luxurious, Satoshi Ohno served wine while Nishikido Ryo was even asked to speak to one of magazine editor's daughter on phone because the daughter is a huge fan. During the dinner, TOKIO's Nagase Tomoya and Yamaguchi Tatsuya also appeared, the two are rumored to be Julie's allies in the so-called "Julie Faction".

Entertainment insiders said that a similar dinner also happened November last year. Although this might looked like a simple dinner to promote activities of these Johnny's talents but insiders are claiming that this is Julie Fujishima's way of flaunting her power and influence that she's ready to take-on Johnny's Entertainment once Johnny Kitagawa leaves.

MISIA performs at Centennial National Cherry Blossom Festival, standing ovation ensues

The centennial celebration of the National Cherry Blossom Festival was ushered in with much fanfare at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Sunday. Nearly 6,000 attendees, awash in hues of pink, were greeted by real-life Ents (for the uninitiated: Tolkien's tree people), with women on stilts sprouting elaborately arranged cherry blossoms and neon-lit flashing butterflies that rose above the crowd on poles.

Renowned opera singer and DC native Denyce Graves-Montgomery followed the Children's Chorus of Washington with her larger-than-life voice imbuing new power to the US national anthem.

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and pianist Sara Bareilles headlined the event, performing her catchy hit "Love Song" and others. But perhaps the biggest crowd pleaser was Japan's popular R&B singer Misia, whose five-octave range had most out of their seats cheering loudly. For her first performance in the States, she ended her set with an uptempo version of Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," which showcased her incredible voice.
