Johnny’s dancer Yara Tomoyuki gets lead in musical

Nylon 2012.05 issue

One of the best dancers at Johnny’s will get his first musical lead 16 years after joining the agency, reports Mainichi Shimbun.

29-year-old Yara Tomoyuki joined Johnny’s when he was 13, and has been a member of several groups in his Johnny’s Jr. years including Musical Academy. More recently, he has choreographed concerts for KinKi Kids, Arashi, and Kanjani8. It has been a long wait for the talent but now he has the lead in the musical “道化の瞳 (Douke no Hitomi)“.

“My dream has come true. 4 or 5 years ago, after I had left the group and started solo work, I became more ambitious. I’m really grateful to be able to be a part of something like this now,” he said.

The musical is separated into two parts. The first is about Kenichi (played by Tomoyuki), who has leukemia, and the people he gets to know in the hospital including his blind mother, and the two doctors in the hospital. The second part is a stage performance of a story Kenichi wrote, about a shoe shiner (Tomoyuki) and a group of clowns.

“道化の瞳 (Douke no Hitomi)” will be performed in Tokyo’s Theatre Creation from April 10 to 24

True Story Of A 48Girl's Graduation - The Life Of Hara Mizuki, NMB48 1st Gen Trainee

Recently, NMB48's 1st Gen Kenkyuusei/trainee Hara Mizuki annnounced her graduation from NMB48.
If you're wondering who on earth this girl is, then you've come to the right post.
Not just people who are not familiar with the 48Fandom, there are definitely 48Fans who do not know her either and even NMB fans who may not have heard of this girl until now.

Hara Mizuki. A girl who auditioned for NMB48 when they first started with hopes and dreams for a bright future as an idol.
In the beginning, the prospect seemed promising, and all the girls seemed to be given equal chances and opportunities. However, not everything turned out well for Mizuki. Until this day that she has announced her graduation, she never got a big break or a time to shine. Quoted from somewhere below: "When the light is shining on certain people, there is always a shadow."

Unlike most other 48 girls who leave without saying a word, Hara Mizuki has took a different step and expressed her frustration and true feelings on G+. This prompted responses from several people including NMB48's captain Yamamoto Sayaka as well as creator and founder of the 48franchise, Akimoto Yasushi.

Her true thoughts and feelings regarding her career in NMB48 can be found from her long post  here from her Google +

Higashiyama Noriyuki, Becky join “Eito Ranger” cast

More cast members have been unveiled for Kanjani8’s movie “Eight Ranger,” which was first announced last month. The new additions include Higashiyama Noriyuki in his first villain role and Becky as the story’s heroine.

“Eight Ranger,” also known as “Eito Ranger,” is based on a series of skits that Kanjani8 has performed during their concerts. The skits involve the group’s members playing superheroes who battle an evil organization.

The movie is set in a fictional city in the near future, where the “Eight Ranger” team must fight against a terrorist group known as “Dark Crusade.” Higashiyama will play the villainous leader of “Dark Crusade”, whose activities include selling slaves. Meanwhile, Becky will cast aside her usual cheerful image as she plays a female police detective with a dark past.

The other newly announced cast members are Renbutsu Misako as a detective who admires heroes, Takenaka Naoto and Tayama Ryosei as police chiefs, Ishibashi Renji as the chairman of the vigilante “Hero Association,” and Ueshima Ryuhei as a hero candidate.

It was already revealed previously that Tachi Hiroshi will play a legendary hero named Captain Silver.

“Eight Ranger” is scheduled for theatrical release on July 28.

Stalking cases top 14,000 for fourth consecutive year

A high-profile case in which police put off a stalking complaint and went on vacation, and the victim's mother and grandmother were later found slain, has put the spotlight on stalking.

However, the number of stalking cases recognized by police in 2011 dropped by about 1,500 to 14,618 across the country, according to a report released by the National Police Agency.

The NPA data, released March 22, showed it was the fourth consecutive year that the number of cases such as stalking and silent calls exceeded 14,000.

In the murders in December in Nagasaki Prefecture, a man is suspected of killing the victim's mother and grandmother.

The suspect, from Mie Prefecture, was later arrested by Nagasaki police.

The father of a woman, a resident in Chiba Prefecture, who had been stalked by the suspect, went to Narashino Police Station in Chiba Prefecture in December to file a complaint. He was asked to wait a week before submitting his request for an investigation.

It was later found the officers traveled to Hokkaido for three days on a trip after seeing the father.

Japanese Students Not Hot on Study Abroad

Study abroad isn’t just a luxury, these days it’s a rite of passage for many students around the world. While more and more students in Asia and the U.S. are venturing overseas, a recent survey shows that just 57.2% of Japanese students, once the prototypical image of expat learners during the bubble, are interested in an overseas academic experience.

The survey, published by the Japan Youth Research Institute, polled over 8,000 students from China, South Korea, Japan and the U.S. in 2011. Even though 58.1% of Japanese students had been abroad, they ranked lowest of the four countries in terms of interest in a study abroad experience. In comparison, 82.4% in South Korea and 62.5% in China and were interested.

So why has enthusiasm waned in Japan? It’s not economic reasons, as only 19.5% of Japanese said that money was a barrier. And it’s not because they’ll miss home – only 10.3% said that was a consideration, compared with 30.4% of Chinese, 54.2% of Koreans and 58.1% of Americans.

Pokemon Black 2 and White 2: First Details

It's been a couple months since the minds of PokeManiacs worldwide were blown with the announcement of Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, the very first numbered sequel for the core Pokemon games. Today some juicy new details have finally emerged thanks to Japanese manga magazine CoroCoro.

The new issue reveals that the game is still set in Unova, the region from the original Pokemon Black and White games, but that it features new locations, new trainers, new gym leaders and a new rival. The game takes place two years after the events of Black and White, and the Unova region has undergone some major changes during that time. It seems at least part of the map is frozen in ice (thanks to legendary ice Pokemon Kyurem, perhaps?), while other areas have been altered from what they were like in Black and White.

Yamapi to release first anime theme song

Johnny’s artist Tomohisa Yamashita’s upcoming single will be used as a theme song to popular manga-turned-anime トリコ (Toriko), it was announced on April 12, reports Sankei Sports and Oricon.

It has been reported the song is called “LOVE CHASE”, and although a released date has not been decided, it will start playing at the end of the anime show from April 15.  Yamashita has said he was excited about his first anime song as a solo artist.

“I can’t wait to see how ‘LOVE CHASE’ goes with the ‘Toriko’ anime,” he said.

“It’s the perfect song for Yamashita-san, it’s cool and upbeat so I hope you all like it!”

Legendary Manga Author Kazuo Koike to Advise Dark Horse Comics "47 Ronin" Adaptation

Earlier this week, we had news about the post-production work on a Hollywood adaptation of classic saga of samurai ethics, 47 Ronin. Independently, the story is also being adapted into a comic, written by the President of publisher Dark Horse, Mike Richardson, and illustrated by the renowned Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo), with the legendary Kazuo Koike (Lone Wolf and Cub) advising. The book is scheduled to be released in November 2012, the same month as the movie's planned opening.

“I’ve been fascinated with this story from the earliest days of Dark Horse, visiting the significant locations and doing research during my trips to Japan. For years I’ve been looking for just the right artist and it finally dawned on me that he was right here at Dark Horse,” said Mike Richardson. “Stan Sakai is a master storyteller who knows the material, and his artistic interpretation is perfect for the story. What’s more, my friend, legendary manga writer Kazuo Koike, has served as editorial consultant for the project.”

Stan Sakai has been working on a wood block print inspired style for the book. “I have known the 47 Ronin story about all my life, and I paid a pilgrimage to their gravesite when I was in Japan in 2009. This is a significant event in Japanese history, and when Mike asked me to illustrate the story I jumped at the chance. I’m known for the research I do, but I was amazed at the research and knowledge Mike already had. I’m having a blast with this.”
