“Sadako 3D” gets bumped up to 4D

Cinema Today is reporting that some screenings of the hugely successful horror film Sadako 3D will soon be adding a whole new dimension to the movie-going experience which Kadokawa is calling “4D”.

Last September, several theaters in Japan screened Robert Rodriguez’s “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D“ with a few additional “4DX” features such as specific smells wafting through the theater or vibrations at certain points during the movie. However, “Sadako 4D“ will apparently take things to a whole new level.

In keeping with the suspense/horror theme, moviegoers will have their legs grabbed, large clouds of white smoke will be pumped into the theater, and seats will even be fitted with velcro to bind people’s arms. Also, the theater will suddenly be invaded by a horde of real-life Sadakos who will come out of a large well.

Sadako 3D stars Satomi Ishihara, Koji Seto and Yusuke Yamamoto, with a guest-starring role by Ai Hashimoto. It was directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa, who had previously been known for comedies. However, his new spin on the Ring franchise, combined with a heavy dose of unconventional PR (Sadako first pitch, Sadako horde invades Shibuya, etc.), has led to an impressive domestic draw and the strong likelihood of overseas distribution deals in the future.

Screenings of “Sadako 4D“ will begin at Kadokawa Cinema Shinjuku on June 7th.

Japan bets on overseas 'Japantowns' to boost economy

Japan is hoping to cash in on its rich culture by recreating fashionable districts of Tokyo in foreign cities, determined that enclaves of vibrant shops, cafes and restaurants can find new markets abroad.

For decades, exports have been the driving force behind the world’s third largest economy with brands like Toyota and Sony becoming household names around the globe.

But a key plank in the government’s “Cool Japan” strategy, which launched last year, is to transplant Tokyo’s trendy districts overseas, taking the shops to the customers instead of bringing the customers to the shops.

It could see quirky areas like shopping district Harajuku pop up in cities around the world, boosting Japan’s brand overseas and helping to reverse the nation’s flagging fortunes.

Harajuku is known for a subculture in which young women dress up in a style known as Lolita fashion, looking not unlike Little Bo Peep. The area and its fashion has inspired pop diva Lady Gaga.

In October, more than a dozen Japanese apparel companies opened a mini-commercial hub called Harajuku Street Style in Singapore, the kind of venture that Cool Japan advocates are hoping to replicate many times over.

Japan’s cultural exports are already valued at 4.6 trillion yen a year, according to government figures.

Pop acts like hugely popular girl group AKB48 make up a sizeable chunk of this figure, while manga and anime do their share with a significant, but falling, contribution.

The cutesy Hello Kitty, a moon-faced cartoon cat, is present in more than 100 countries around the world, its maker says.

But the government wants to more-than-double the amount Japanese pop culture makes for the country’s economy, and is eying 11 trillion yen by 2020.

Dorothy Little Happy's Tobidase! Summertime information

Dorothy Little Happy (or DLH) belongs to a genre in what we call "Local Idol". Japan is made up of many prefectures, such as Kanto, Hokkaido, Kanagawa etc. Local idols are idol groups that base their activities within the boundaries of their local hometown prefectures only and does not go beyond it. Most of these acts never even go major but are content with their achievements and fame around their hometown. AKB48 was originally a Kanto region based idol but now have surpassed that to national recognition. Dorothy Little Happy is a Sendai region local idol but now is major with Avex as its record label.

Dorothy Little Happy was formed in February 2010, named and produced by musician Sakamoto Satoru. The inspiration for the name obviously came from the main character Dorothy of "The Wizard of Oz", in which the producer wishes the girls to be like Dorothy, where he said "with her kindness and bravery bringing little happiness to everyone". The members in Dorothy Little Happy were picked from other units of their agency Step1.

Sakurai Sho relieving stress at gay bars [omoxi]

Everybody’s favorite guy, Sakurai Sho, has lately been secretly relieving his stress by drinking at a bar in the Holy Land of Gay, or in other words, the Shinjuku Ni-chome district.

A person connected to Ni-chome claims that, “His preferred spot isn’t a gay-bar aimed at straight people, but a full-blown gay-bar. But that’s not to say Sakurai is gay. Before, even Akanishi and Yamapi have come to Ni-chome, so it may be that connection.” It’s said that when he has the time, Sakurai will aimlessly go late at night alone.

The person continues, “When a regular customer like Hirai Ken comes, he enjoys singing karaoke songs like Matsuda Seiko’s ‘Ki 5 Age’, but Sakurai enjoys talking with the shop tenants. “

Sakurai is said to frequent Ni-chome gay bars, and for the female fans this may bring on some complicated feelings.

It’s been a rough year for Sakurai, with Josei Shuukan publishing his recent “cellphone scandal” and now with him allegedly avoiding fans, even the fans are beginning to worry. With working as a newscaster for NEWS ZERO, variety shows, and being an actor, among other various things, there’s a chance Sakurai is carrying an unthinkable amount of stress. It’s only good then if a gay bar helps him relieve all that piled up stress.

lol at the recycling. But uhm, No Shit on the stress. The mentioned female fans, and tabloids, have to get over it and leave him alone.

EDIT:
Since there's a discussion on the "gay-bar aimed a straight people" part, it's called "観光バー" (lit. tourist bar). These bars welcome (and cater to) straight customers, but "actual gay bars" generally are restricted to gay customers only.

Katori Shingo to play role of culprit in movie, ‘Odoru Daisousasen THE FINAL’

Odoru Daisousasen

It's been revealed that SMAP's Katori Shingo will be playing the role of a culprit in Oda Yuji's upcoming movie, 'Odoru Daisousasen THE FINAL Aratanaru Kibou'.

The 'Odoru Daisousasen' series has released 5 movies (including spin-offs) since 1998, pulling in over 31.2 million viewers with a box-office revenue of $547 million USD (42.7 billion yen). Katori strongly expressed, "I want to use up all the power that I possess and have a match with Oda-san. I won't lose to Oda-san."

In the past, Katori has dressed up as detective Aoshima for a 'Odoru Daisousasen' parody on his show, 'SMAP×SMAP'. He commented, "As a fan, my dream of entering the world of 'Odoru' has come true. I've always wanted to appear in it." It's said that there will be a showdown scene between Katori's character and detective Aoshima.

Although he's known for his cheerful and outgoing personality, Katori will have very few lines in the film. Director Motohiro Katsuyuki explained, "He will show us an insane act that he normally doesn't show. Just by those expressions, I really felt Katori-san's appeal."

'Odoru Daisousasen THE FINAL Aratanaru Kibou' will open in theaters nationwide on September 7.

Oguri Shun already facing heat from Yamada Yu?

Yamada Yu and Oguri Shun were married this March, but in a month’s time they’ve already had a giant fight. The reason for it stems from Oguri attempting to hide his group dates and cover up certain lies.

Allegedly, during April, Yamada discovered Oguri was holding a group date in the Tokyo metropolitan area. According to an intimate model friend of Yamada, “Yu-chan has a lot of model and talent friends, so the information about the group date got around quickly. After being lectured by Yamada, he finally admitted to it. The date consisted of 3 men, 2 who were unnamed actors, and 3 models, and they were in a karaoke box for about 3 hours.”

Oguri, who’s honest to the lower half of his body, would be expected to be done with “takeout” being he’s a newlywed. However, the thing that has Yamada mad isn’t the group dates, but the lies Oguri made on the phone, the lies being that every time Oguri received a call from Yamada during these group dates, he would quiet the room and act as if he were alone. These tactics were eventually outed.

Even more alarming, it was reported in Ichibu Shuukanshi that only 5 days after announcing his marriage, Oguri held a risky group date with Matsumoto Jun and Yamashita Tomoshisa. As thought, Oguri’s love for group dates is profound.

According to Yamada’s intimate friend, Yamada allegedly said, “It’s fine to have get-togethers as long as Shun doesn’t cheat, but telling lies, and having reporters come every time Shun holds a group date makes me feel embarrassed and I hate it!” It seems even after marriage, the worries of cheating for the couple have yet to die down.
