On Sept 5th, it has been announced that NEWS‘ Shigeaki Kato will star in the new TBS/MBS late night drama titled “Hana no Zubora-meshi” (Hana’s sloppy meals) starting this Oct. 23rd.

Nominated from last year’s Manga Taisho Awards, this cooking manga follows the everyday life of a cute yet lonely housewife named Hana, who spends her time cooking sloppy meals while her  husband is away on an assignment. Despite the food’s appearance, Hana loves to eat them and each episode will feature a “sloppy meal” cooked by Hana. The female lead will be played by Kurashina Kana.

Shigeaki Kato’s will play the head of the sloppiness research center named Osonoi. Kato will do commentaries, research, and explanations regarding Hana’s sloppiness. The said role wasn’t included in the manga, and Kato hopes that even though his character is not in the manga, he hopes that he can spice things in making the drama more interesting. “There will be a cooking corner at the end of the show and I hope that [viewers] will treat the drama as a midnight snack enough to satisfy them when they are hungry,” Kato added.

Furthermore, viewers are invited to send their own “sloppy” recipes that Osonoi (Kato’s character) will cooked for the cooking corner.

Aside from being an author with his “Pink to Gray” novel, Kato will now show his versatility in the cooking field.

Hana no Zubora-meshi will air on TBS this Oct. 23rd at 12:05am (JST) and on MBS this Oct 25th, 12:05am (JST).

It’s been reported that Matsuyama Kenichi (27) and Koyuki (35) are expecting their 2nd baby!

Through her agency, Koyuki commented, “We will be welcoming a new family member in the winter. I’ve now entered my 5th month of pregnancy, and together with my husband, we are looking forward to the day we meet this new life. ”

Matsuyama and Koyuki started dating in April of 2009 after co-starring in the film, ‘Kamui Gaiden‘. They tied the knot in April of last year, and welcomed the birth of their 1st son earlier this January.

On Sept.5th, Arashi’s Ninomiya Kazunari attended the press conference for his latest CM for Nissan- Nissan NOTE.

The said CM was aired last Sept 3rd, which features Ninomiya in a futuristic drive from bachelorhood, marriage, to starting a family.

In a matter of two days, Nissan NOTE has posted increase in orders up to 12,000 units after the CM was aired.

“NOTE is very easy to drive, spacious enough, and it’s very economical,” Ninomiya said when ask about his impression of the car.

Furthermore, Ninomiya shared his future take on the other members of Arashi, “I would like to tour around the world with them,” he shared.

Chara will be releasing her new single, “Chouchou Musubi“, on October 17th, as well as her new album, “Cocoon“, on October 31st.

“Chouchou Musubi” is a ballad number that was written for the anime film, ‘Fuse: Teppo Musume no Torimonocho‘. For its coupling track, the single will include the live version of “Tiny Tiny Tiny“. In addition, the limited edition will come with a DVD containing the PV and making-of video for her previous single, “Planet“.

Meanwhile, “Cocoon” will be Chara’s first album after transferring to Ki/oon Music and will include her singles “Alterna Girlfriend“, “Planet”, and “Chouchou Musubi”.

Popular idol group, AKB48's election single this year, also their 27th single, "Gingham Check," has topped the singles chart. This is their 8th consecutive million-selling single (9th overall) since "Sakura no Ki ni Narou" (February last year). For an Oshima Yuko-centered song, this is the first time. The A-side is their first single without Maeda Atsuko who recently graduated from the group. They are off to a good start with a single breaking the 1 million mark, with Oshima taking over as center for only the 2nd time. Since "Everyday, Kachuusha" (May last year), this is the group's 7th consecutive single to break 1 million mark in the first week. This year, this single follows "GIVE ME FIVE" (February) and "Manatsu no Sounds good!" (May) to achieve 1 million. This is the first time in history for an act to achieve at least 3 million-selling singles in 2 consecutive years. "Gingham Check" is their 14th consecutive no.1 single since "RIVER" (October 2009), updating the record set for female groups in 1st place. It has been 16 years and 3 months for an act to achieve 8 consecutive million-selling singles since B'z (with 13), and tied at 2nd place with Mr.Children.

In the albums chart, South Korea's 4-piece band, CNBLUE released their 1st major Japanese album last week, "CODE NAME BLUE" and it has reached no.1. This is the band's first time on top of the albums chart. This is also the 2nd time for them to reach no.1 in either singles or albums chart, with the first one being their single released in February this year, "Where you are," which was also the first time in 41 years for a foreign band to top the singles chart. The band's previous album released in their indie days, "392" (September last year) peaked at 6th. With the exception of sub-units, this is the 3rd time for foreign male artists to reach no.1 with their 1st major album since FTISLAND's "FIVE TREASURE ISLAND" (May last year), and Jang Geun Suk's "JUST CRAZY" (June this year).

Meanwhile, 5-member band, Tokyo Jihen, who ended their 7 and a half years career at Nihon Budoukan on February 29th this year, have topped the music-DVD chart with their 2nd disbandment video, "Chin Play Kou Play." Their 1st disbandment video, "Bon Voyage" also entered the weekly chart at 3rd place, making it their 2nd consecutive times in the top 3 for both videos. This work includes their history from formation to disbandment, demonstrating Tokyo Jihen. Packed with footage of their tour in digest format, as well as festivals and events, this is not to be missed by fans. The Blu-Ray version of this video also reached no.2 in the music-BD chart, selling 12,818 copies, for a total DVD+BD of 31,162 copies.

There's an assumption that only women appearing in revealing magazine spreads in Japan. That's incorrect! Hunky dudes do, too. Hunky dudes like video game voice actor Mamoru Miyano.

The 29-year old has done a lot of voice work. He debuted as the voice of Riku in Kingdom Hearts, before moving on to the character of Light in Death Note and the lead in Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Impressive! He's also done voice work for Tales of Vesperia, Inazuma Eleven, Steins; Gate, and one of the Pokémon feature films. Miyano is slated to voice the character of Ignis in Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

He's also slated to do a layout in a special issue of Junon, a monthly fashion mag aimed at young women. The special issue is titled "Beautiful NUDE Young Men Unbanned". It will feature an interview with the actor as well as photos. The photos will probably show Miyano with his shirt off or in revealing, yet tastefully covered poses. It's unlikely that he'll be showing the world, you know, his keyblade.

Just about anything goes in Tokyo's high energy and fashionable Shibuya district. Even so, pedestrians on the main Koen-dori thoroughfare did a double-take.

There, sauntering down the street were bug-eyed superhero Ultraman, decked out from head to toe in his trademark rubber suit, and his archenemy Alien Baltan, looking for all the world like an overgrown cockroach striding upright on two legs.

These characters from the ubiquitous "Ultraman" superhero franchise--Japan's 1960s answer to Superman--were on their way to a live broadcast from a studio run by satellite broadcaster Wowow Inc.

Japanese scientists are warning that the country's famed Mount Fuji could be on the verge of a catastrophic eruption.



Volcanologists have discovered that the pressure in the volcano's magma chamber is higher than it was the last time Fuji erupted in 1707. The pressure is measured in megapascals, and researchers say recent readings show the chamber hitting a level of 1.6; pressure readings of 0.1 megapascals are enough to trigger an eruption. Scientists say the March 2011 earthquake that caused a massive tsunami has been one factor in putting increased pressure on the chamber. Government estimates say an eruption could result in more than 300,000 deaths as well as cause up to $30 billion in damage.

On September 5th, actress Aso Kumiko (34) and actor Oizumi Yo (39) appeared at a press conference in Tokyo to mark the completion of their film “‘GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!’” (directed by Yamamoto Toru, opens December 15th.)

As this was her first public appearance since the birth of her daughter on May 7th, Aso smiled as she said, “This was the only film I made while I was pregnant, so it is special.”

She also reflected on the live scene with the rock band and stated, “When I was rehearsing for the live performance (for the rock band in the movie), I had morning sickness and I felt terrible.”
