Public Transport Tactics: How to Deal with Shoulder Sleepers


Anyone who’s taken public transportation has had a run-in with shoulder sleepers, the people who sit next to you on the train, bus, plane and decide your shoulder is their next stop to dreamland.

Some people deal with this threat by taking up the neighboring seat with their bags. However justified that tactic might be, you’re left looking selfish to the rest of the passengers.

So you leave the seat open. And like clockwork some dude with pit stains plunks down next you, eyelids half-raised and wobbling like a drunk during an earthquake.

 Japan, having one of the most used public transportation systems in the world. knows a thing or two about people sleeping on your shoulder. The following is a collection of strategies posted online by Japanese commuters for shrugging off shoulder sleepers.

In the albums chart, popular techno-pop unit, Perfume reached the no.1 spot with "Perfume Global Compilation "LOVE THE WORLD"". This is their 4th consecutive no.1 album. The last time a female group achieved 4 no.1 albums in a row was SPEED with "Carry On My Love" (December 1999), 12 years and 9 months ago. Since Perfume will embark on an Asia Tour starting next month, this album with danceable pop songs is to introduce them to foreign fans.

Meanwhile, Johnny's 5-member group, A.B.C-Z achieved their 3rd consecutive no.1 DVD with "Zutto LOVE." Since the music-DVD ranking being included in April 1999, A.B.C-Z is only the 2nd group to have reached the top spot 3 times in a row in the same year after AKB48. As for male groups, they are only the 3rd group to have achieved consecutive no.1 ranking since debut after KinKi Kids and KAT-TUN.

the GazettE to release their new album in 62 different countries

Visual kei band ‘the GazettE’ released their latest album “DIVISION” on August 29, and now they plan on releasing it in 62 countries throughout the world. Though the band hasn’t held a live abroad in four years since their last European tour in October 2007, their new album has entered various music charts throughout the world, including: Amazon UK’s “Hard Rock & Metal” newly issued album chart at #12 and the TOP 10 on Finland and France’s iTunes Store “Rock” charts.

The album will be released in 39 countries in Europe including England, Germany, France, and Italy. It will be released in 14 countries throughout Asia including Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea. It will also be released to countries in North and South America: The United States, Canada, Brazil, and Chile, as well as countries in Oceania: Australia and New Zealand. This definitely tops their previous work “TOXIC”, which was released in 39 countries.

the GazettE has also announced that they would start a hall tour “LIVE TOUR12 -DIVISION- GROAN OF DIPLOSOMIA 01“ in October. The tour will kick off at Yokosuka Arts Theatre on October 8, and will finish the tour at NHK Hall on November 29 (total 24 performances).

CHARA unveils cover and tracklist for her new album


CHARA has just updated her fans on her official site with the cover and tracklist from her 15th studio album COCOON to be released on October 31st. The new album will have 11 tracks including "Orutana Girl Friend," "Planet," and "Chocho Musubi (the main theme song of the anime movie "Fuse")." and will have one bonus track.

Arashi to Release “POPCORN” Album + Upcoming Tour Dates


Following Arashi‘s successful “AraFes” at Tokyo National Stadium this Sept 20th and tomorrow, Sept 21st. The 5-member popular group also announced that they will be releasing an album entitled “POPCORN” this Oct. 31st. Furthermore, they will embark on a nationwide tour starting on Nov. 16th.

The said album will have 4 singles, 5 new solos, and 7 studio songs.

Lastly, here are the tour dates:

  • Kyocera Dome: November: 16th, 17th & 18th
  • Sapporo Dome: November 30th to Dec 1st and 2nd.
  • Fukuoka Dome: December: 7,8 & 9
  • Tokyo Dome: December: 13,14,15 & 16
  • Nagoya Dome:  January: 11, 12 & 13, 2013.


Maeda Atsuko chosen as the Tokyo International Film Festival ambassador

On September 20th, the 25th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) revealed its lineup for the October event. 15 movies have been chosen to go against one another.

The film festival will take place from October 20th to October 28th in Roppongi, Tokyo, where various movies are fighting for the highest award, “Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix”. American Director, Roger Corman, has been chosen as the chairman of the judging committee.

Currently, Japan is having strained diplomatic relations between China and South Korea due to island disputes. Film festival chairman, Yoda Tatsumi, discussed these issues in regards to the festival, “This is a place to share films without any borders. The festival is not influenced by these occasional situations. They do not have an impact on us at this time.

Maeda Atsuko was also in attendance as the “TIFF Ambassador” to help promote the film festival. She showed her enthusiasm, “I love movies, so I’m looking forward to interacting with an assortment of people. I’ll do my best.
