Kitagawa Keiko & Fukada Kyoko as co-leads in movie "Roommate"; poster and trailer released

The poster and trailer for the movie "Roommate" starring Kitagawa Keiko and Fukada Kyoko have been released. In the poster, Kitagawa and Fukada are featured in two mirror images of themselves where the upside-down mirror image shows Kitagawa with an antagonistic look and Fukada with a fierce look filled with hatred in order to bring across the message that a woman's true self can be frightening.

The movie features Kitagawa as Harumi who gets hospitalised due to a traffic accident and becomes friends with a nurse Reiko which leads to them sharing an apartment after Harumi is discharged. However, Harumi soon realises that Reiko's actions are getting weirder and then develops into a murder case. Stalled Akira live-action movie comes back to life

After being completely suspended in 2012, it seems like plans for the Akira live action movie are finally moving forward again. The Warner Brothers movie will be a Hollywood retelling of the 1988 cult anime classic, with original writer and director Katsuhiro Ohtomo acting as executive producer. This will perhaps assuage some fans’ fears that Hollywood will turn the dark, complex narrative into just another generic guns-and-explosions blockbuster.

The story is set in a dystopian Neo-Tokyo, and revolves around teenager biker Tetsuo Shima and his psychic abilities. There has been no news on whether the Hollywood remake will keep to the Asian roots of the story, or try to transplant it into an American setting so as to be more palatable for US audiences.

Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Orphan) is currently in negotiations to come back on board as director. However, it’s still not sure whether or not Garrett Hedlund, who was cast as the lead back in 2012, will be returning.

Currently little more is known other than the news that the project is starting up again, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated with any new tidbits that come our way.

Matsuura Aya and w-inds.' Tachibana Keita are marrying!

It was learned on the 3rd that Tachibana Keita (27), the main vocalist of the 3-member unit w-inds., will be marrying Matsuura Aya (27). They will be submitting their marriage registration on the 4th and holding their ceremony in Hawaii this fall. It has been about 12 years since they began dating in 2001, the same year in which they both made their debuts as singers. Having been supportive of Matsuura who put a pause on all activities as a result of having endometriosis, Tachibana ended his national solo tour on this day and will be welcoming the start of a new beginning as a pair.

After compiling information from numerous sources, it appears they will be submitting their marriage registration on the 4th at a local ward office. Matsuura had visited Hawaii in June ahead of her wedding ceremony for purveyance, and the actual ceremony is planned for October or later.

The two of them first met in 2001, when they both made their debuts around the same time. They quickly hit it off and it blossomed into romance. Having experienced one break up before, they continued to nurture their love in-between their busy lives. Last year, they began living together in a high rise apartment building within the city. Backing the decision to marry was Tachibana's success when it came to work. w-inds. pulled off successful lives in Korea, China, and Hong Kong last year. On top of his popularity in various Asian countries, he made another solo debut as KEITA and released an album this June with a subsequent national tour.

Pitchfork reviews Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's album

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

Nanda Collection Warner Japan; 2013

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is the most popular J-pop performer in the Western Hemisphere, which makes sense because she’s the most Western J-pop performer in Japan. It’s a quality that’s embedded right in her name: “Kyary” is the closest Japanese-language approximation of the Western name “Carrie,” which her high school classmates teased her with when they thought she was dressed in a too typically “American” style. (She added the “Pamyu Pamyu” part just because she thought it sounded good.)
