Update on HSJ and making headlines everywhere

Hey!Say! underage member smoking, entertainment activities stopped indefinitely

Official statement:
Today, there are some news articles, which we validated with Morimoto Ryutaro himself. He admits that he has smoked out of curiosity on several occassions before. Although he is very sorry for his behaviour and in self-scrutiny, however underage smoking as a violation of the law is common knowledge and an unacceptable behaviour. Our company has always placed emphasis on educating them in this regard. To face the facts, from now on, Morimoto will cease all of his activities in the entertainment field indefinitely.
We sincerely apologize for the trouble caused to all fans and related persons.
-Johnnys Jimusho

Depends. Probably not. When Goro from Snap had his scandal (he hit a police woman with his car) he was given house arrest for a year, I think. No concerts or public appearances whatsoever. Had Smap not been so popular he definitely would've been sacked. So, if it were yamada...probably something similar: suspended activities and public apology etc

he hit a police woman with his car? Wtf?

It's years ago. From what I read, he got a parking ticket and kinda flipped and tried to drive away, during which he hit the woman. Afaik she wasn't hurt, but it obviously didn't help matters.

(It's from a book about pop culture in Japan vs US and they cited the case.)

Popularity doesn't matter. Uchi was a forerunner in NEWS and K8 and he still got sacked. J&A hates their jailbait idols doing illegal things.

Neither News nor Kanjani were anything even remotely comparable to SMAP and Uchi was not as popular within his groups as Yamada is in HSJ/NYC.

Well, I think it's a good thing that popularity doesnt matter during these kinds of situations. Finally, I could see some equality in J&A. lol
