Miliyah Kato hand-draws cover of first novel, remains the new Picasso/Souseki

Singer-songwriter Kato Miliyah's upcoming first novel, "Umareta mama no Watashi wo" (9/22) will feature a cover hand-drawn by the artist herself. The book, which Kato worked on for a year, will be the story of a 22 year old nude painter who cannot find love, and the cover represents that by featuring the sketch of a naked woman.

On the seventh year of her career, Kato released "M BEST" which hit #1 on the Oricon weekly charts. This has been her third consecutive chart-topping album and has passed the 270,000 mark as of this week.

Wasn't sure if this was NSFW but I put it under a cut to be safe. Anyway, she's so talented. Singing, dancing, song-writing, drawing, and novel writing... is there anything she can't do?

I just saw this today, I thinks it looks amazing

can you translate the name ^^
koutaishi 8th-Sep-2011 04:31 pm (UTC)
I don't really know how to translate the title, I understand it but I don't know how to say it in English... "Umareta" means born, and "mama" expresses a condition or state, so it would be like "remaining born" or something, and then it's modifying "Watashi," which is I, and "wo" is an object marker and usually it needs some verb after it, but in advertisements or songs or poetry sometimes it will be left without any verb. so "...Me, who is in the state of having been born"?

basically IDK.

"Just the way I was born"

Really hope the story is great, I'm gonna pre-order the book. The cover looks great. She never ceases to amaze me!
energenki 8th-Sep-2011 04:46 pm (UTC)
I do like the art, really.

...
But.

THAT FONT.

T_______________T;;
nyappnyappcafe 8th-Sep-2011 07:25 pm (UTC)
Yeah I was thinking the same thing.
You can barely see it.
energenki 8th-Sep-2011 08:46 pm (UTC)
I know. You can barely see it, and it's that generic, what-you-get-when-you-automatically-type font. It's like using Times New Roman on an official release. T___T; (Yes, I'm looking at you, Maeda Atsuko.)
nyappnyappcafe 8th-Sep-2011 10:31 pm (UTC)
Times New Roman makes my stomach hurt.
energenki 8th-Sep-2011 10:33 pm (UTC)
I know. Memories of MLA essays... And just general grossness...

LOL MTE.

The art's wonderful. The font is ugly and doesn't compliment it well. Font style doesn't fit well with the art (it's too blocky and clean) and colour is just unattractive when placed with the art. Dx
energenki 8th-Sep-2011 10:33 pm (UTC)
I KNOW.
I really hope she picked that font and total design herself, because if not, she's probably pissed that someone did that to her artwork. X'DD;;; (I would be.)
yume_no_yousei 8th-Sep-2011 11:45 pm (UTC)
Ugh, if she picked the font, she better have a good reason. The font is too ugly.
I'd be pissed too if someone wrote over my art with an ugly font. Dx
annhh 8th-Sep-2011 07:43 pm (UTC)
well it's nice and artsy, so not good or bad imo. the font though o.O

now I want to know why the painter can't find love...I bet he/she ends up with a nude model
bunnyshoxx 8th-Sep-2011 09:25 pm (UTC)
It's a bit dark and creepy, it being Miliyah Kato.
