Sexy Zone has goal of performing overseas
Appearing on stage holding a single rose, the CD debut of a new, five-member group from Johnny’s was announced at an event in Tokyo on September 29, reports Daily Sports Online, Sports Hochi, and Asahi Shimbun.
The members are Kento Nakajima (17), Fuma Kikuchi (16), Shori Sato (14), So Matsushima (13), and Marius Yo (11). With an average age of 14, Sexy Zone is the youngest group to debut from Johnny’s to date.
They will make their CD debut in November with the single “Sexy Zone”. It has been reported the group’s vision is, “夢は国と国とのかけはし (dreams are what bring countries together)”.
The group’s first responsibility will be to support the 2011 Volleyball World Cup starting on November 4 as special supporters. Other Johnny’s groups such as V6, Arashi, NEWS, and Hey! Say! JUMP made their debut in a similar way to this as well.
It has been reported the five members were selected a few days ago from the 200 or so Johnny’s Jr. members based on their looks, vocals, dancing, acting, and career potential. It has been reported Johnny’s & Associates president Johnny Kitagawa was looking for a group who were not just イケメン (handsome/cool men), but could also pull off sexy.
On top of this, Marius is the first half-Japanese, half-German Johnny’s talent to make a professional debut, perhaps hinting there is a possibility the group will work overseas as well. Marius had only come back to Japan three months ago after living in Germany for a number of years.
“I hope we can perform concerts not only in Germany, but all over Europe,” he said.
Sexy Zone had been told about their debut by Mr Kitagawa less than an hour before their press event, which gave the five boys quite a shock.
“It was a huge surprise! I guess it’s fate that the five of us have come together. I hope we can work together and help each other to create a new age and new zone,” Nakajima said.
“I feel the pressure, but I want to work hard enough to be able to go further than our seniors,” Kikuchi said.
“I want to be able to release a lot of singles and albums and spread our name across Japan,” Sato said.Source: momoedgewood
