Ghibli's Miyazaki, Suzuki Wish Pixar a Happy 25th!

The Nico Nico News site posted the illustrations that director Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro) and Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki drew to congratulate the American computer animation studio Pixar on its 25th anniversary. Miyazaki writes tongue-in-cheek in his drawing that Pixar is a youngster at 25, while Suzuki urges Pixar co-founder John Lasseter to "take it easy!"

The illustrations are part of Pixar Pia, a retrospective compilation book that the Pia publishing company is shipping on Friday. The 96-page tribute book includes a section with messages and illustrations from Japanese animators such as Miyazaki, Production I.G's Kenji Kamiyama (Eden of the East, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex), Satelight's Shoji Kawamori (Macross, Escaflowne), Gainax's Hiroyuki Yamaga (Evangelion, Nadia), and many others.

Pixar Pia recounts Pixar's history, highlights the company's short and long films, and takes a look at the animation studio's practices and accomplishments. After the passing of Pixar and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs last month, the editors added a memorial section to the book.
