Fox Commentator Decries Arrietty for Anti-One-Percent Agenda

Fox Commentator Decries Arrietty for Anti-One-Percent Agenda

Host Lou Dobbs: film is "demonizing the so-called 1 percent"

During a segment of his Lou Dobbs Tonight program on Monday, Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs decried both The Secret World of Arrietty film and the upcoming film adaptation of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax.

Dobbs started the segment by saying that with both films, "Hollywood is once again trying to indoctrinate our children." Dobbs added, "two new films out this year, plainly with an agenda, plainly demonizing the so-called 1 percent and espousing the virtue of green-energy policies, come what may." Dobbs then described the plot of both films and showed a clip from each.

After discussing the "Occupy Wall Street" movement and showing clips of speeches from U.S. President Barack Obama, Dobbs said, "The president's liberal friends in Hollywood [are] targeting a younger demographic using animated movies to sell their agenda to children." Dobbs' segment ends with a roundtable discussion of the films with three radio talk show hosts. The entire segment can be viewed below.

Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Studio Ghibli's anime film The Secret World of Arrietty (Karigurashi no Arrietty) re-imagines Mary Norton's 1952 novel The Borrowers by moving the story to a Tokyo suburb. The story revolves around Arrietty, a member of the "little people" who live under the floorboards of a regular human family's home. Arrietty's family tries to remain hidden from the human "beans." The film opened in North America on Friday, and earned US$8.68 million in four days. The Lorax will open in North America on March 2. (source)

Lou Dobbs is an idiot and not to be taken seriously. The Borrowers was written in 1952 I believe. Yep she had a 2012 agenda in mind when she wrote it. I'm ashamed to be American with all of these yahoos running around.

This is pretty much what I came in here to say. I cannot with American politics and media and etc. and need to lay down now.

What, nobody important died today?
Was it such a slow day that Fox decided "Hey, we haven't made stupid assumptions in a while! Why not take a japanese movie made by the most popular and loved japanese studio ever and say it does something bad to american children?" ôó

I am left speechless by the fact that he said something like this. I had to tweet him because he's a complete asshole for bashing a studio ghibli film of all things.

asaphira_sachi 23rd-Feb-2012 02:33 am (UTC)
What decade is he still living in where cartoons "demonizing" children?

Ghibli = Hollywood? That's the worst insult ever to give to a flawless studio.
singlouder 23rd-Feb-2012 02:34 am (UTC)
Didn't Fox just complain about The Muppet Movie trying to indoctrinate kids into the "liberal agenda"? And now they're complaining about both The Secret World of Arrietty and The Lorax? What's their deal with kids' movies all of a sudden? Has this always been a thing for them?
frequency 23rd-Feb-2012 04:34 am (UTC)
lol they said the muppets taught children to hate big oil companies.
