We’ve all heard some pretty interesting stories about the lengths celebrities will go to in order to hide a relationship. From masks to sunglasses to hats, the more acreage of their faces they can cover, the better. Oshima Yuko went one step further though…
“First, she’d surveyed the apartment entrance from around 30m away. After watching for around 10min to see that no strange person is around, she’d make a mad dash towards the entrance. That’s something she does on a daily basis. It seems that she’s still traumatized from the photos tabloids took of her while returning home.” This trauma might be back in 2010, when she accidentally admitted to visiting her boyfriend when a reporter ambushed her with an interview on her way home.
“It was like a guerrilla attack. They like to interview people when they least expect it so they’re more likely to tell the truth without thinking. But she was lucky in that the tabloid reporter who interviewed her works for a tabloid that is in good terms with AKB’s management. So they didn’t publish that interview. But there are tabloids out there will not hesitate to publish dirt about the popular idol group.” Said a tabloid reporter.
Ever since that time, she has put her guard up whenever she returns home. Someone who knows the idol took pity on her, “She can’t have her photo taken when she goes visit her boyfriend, and she can’t have her relationship publicized either. So now, she’d put a cardboard box over her head when she enters the apartment building. So if they take her photo, she can deny that it’s her since her face is not visible. She’d carry those disguises everywhere, and they are all pretty strange things. I really feel bad for her since people would know she’s not a normal person because of the cardboard box.”
But it seems neighbors who have ran into Yuko with a cardboard box didn’t think underneath it was an idol. They were merely shocked. AKB bans relationships, but crushing is okay. There are even cases where members were forced to graduate once their relationships were found out by the public. But with Yuko running around her neighborhood with a cardboard box over her head, it wouldn’t be surprising if it gets published on tabloids on a slow day.
