World’s First Snaggletooth Girl Group

You may have heard of the recent dental trend in Japan called tsuke yaeba, where women get their canines capped to get a crooked set of chompers. If so, you might have guessed that a snaggletooth girl group couldn’t be far behind, and here they are: TYB48.

Eighteen-year-olds Nana, Mio and Rika were chosen from a field of applicants recruited by a dental clinic specializing in tsuke yaeba. Girls with crooked teeth are generally thought to be cute in Japan, and with TYB48 as fashion trendsetters, organizers hope to encourage young women not blessed with overlapping fangs to take have their teeth cosmetically altered.

The group will have their debut concert in Akihabara on April 30th, and concert goers will also be able to pick up copies of their first CD, frighteningly titled “Mind If I Bite?”

Erm, the procedure doesn't really "mess" the biting nor alignment of the teeth. They used some sort of ingredient/material to "glue" onto the teeth that you want to give the "messed-up" look. It's just an outer layer over your real teeth. So your teeth looks messed up, it's actually still straight on the inside and it doesn't affect your jaw, biting whatsoever.

BUT such a procedure is not good for the teeth that is "glued" on, because teeth have pores for "breathing" and such procedure basically covers all the pores up.

One of the reasons why straight teeth isn't such a craze in Japan is due to the lack of orthodontists :\ If you're born with it, alright... But to PAY to get your teeth appear messed up? It's weird 'cos it isn't cheap to undergo such procedure. I rather spend the money on something else :\

So it's basically like veneers?

I think so? Sounds similar to it, but articles I'd read in the past regarding such a trend didn't mention veneers so I'm not 100% sure. If not the same, it's a similar concept, minus the need to shave of your actual teeth (if talking about teeth correction).

Ohh interesting, i thought it was something like braces but with the other effect (which could be damn painful btw) but like you say it's still not good because it's glued on and might affect the real teeth.

thanks for explaining i was totally ignorant about how the procedure actually was.

Oh no no, if it's something that major damage, it wouldn't cost so cheap at ¥30,000 lol But that's the price of getting "damages" up to the two fangs only, not anything beyond.

Still, I can't comprehend how people will want to do such things. Crooked teeth accepted as the standard beauty or not, if you're not born with it, don't mess with it.

IDK, I had my teeth straightened for the biting, not for the aesthetic purpose... But then again, my teeth are straight to begin with lol

I also got my teeth straightened for the biting, i don't have perfect teeth or anything, I actually have long fangs (but in their place) and used to have two teeth slightly overlapped, but that was the first thing that got fixed with the braces.

Some cases in Japan are just sad, there is people who can't eat or speak properly and people who can't even close their mouth...
