Most celebrities are used to seeing their fans adopt their style and try and imitate them in what the old adage would have us believe is the sincerest form of flattery.
But then there are others who will take their love for a celebrity too far by trying to really look like them.
Something Johnny Depp found out as he found himself face-to-face with one of Japan's leading celebrity impersonators as he jetted into the country yesterday.
Hello everyone - and me! Johnny Depp is greeted by his Japanese impersonator as he jetted into Tokyo to promote his new film Dark Shadows
There to greet him was Ken Shimizu, who has dressed up as Depp complete with goatee beard and trilby hat.
He looked uncannily like the movie star who is in Japan to promote his new film Dark Shadows.
Standing out from the crowd: It would have been hard for Depp to miss Ken as he battled his way through the screaming fans to get his idol to sign a photo
And he happily stopped and obliged his lookalike with an autograph - and probably a slight feeling of unease - as he chatted to fans and posed for pictures as he got off his plane at the Narita international airport in Narita, east of Tokyo.
The premiere for Dark Shadows took place that night in the city's Roppongi Hills Arena and Johnny had certainly come prepared with a huge trolley of luggage and his beloved guitar.
Dark Shadows is Depp's eighth collaboration with director Tim Burton and is based on the long-running soap on American daytime TV between 1966 and 1971.
Warm welcome: Depp came off the plane and was greeted by scores of excited fans...
... we he made scream even louder when he leaned into them to shake hands and sign autographs
Depp plays handsome socialite Barnabas Collins who has an affair with a housemaid called Angelique, played by Eva Green, who turns out to be a witch who takes her revenge when he spurns her.
She sentences Barnabas to endless suffering as a vampire and then buries him alive until he wakes up in 1972 and revisits his old house to find it occupied.
The film also stars Helena Bonham Carter, Jonny Lee Miller, Michelle Pfeiffer and Chloe Morentz.
Hello, Tokyo! Depp, dressed in his rock 'n' roll attire, waved at the fans as he headed into the terminal
Aren't you cute? Johnny gets a big hug from one of his younger fans who was dressed up as a chipmunk
Depp has also been making headlines recently when it was reported that he and his long-term love Vanessa Paradis had split up.
But at the London premiere of the film last week, he poured scorn on the reports and said he and Vanessa, with whom he has two children, were still very much an item.
Welcome to Japan! Johnny took some time to talk to his fans and shake their hands
Speaking to The Sun, he said: 'The rumours are not true. They are absolutely not true.
'No matter what I say about this, people believe the opposite. I can’t say enough about it not being over.'
