Here is an update on the death of Nicola Furlong, a Irish exchange student who was found strangled in a Tokyo hotel room on May 24.
Immediately following the discovery of Furlong’s body, police had arrested two Americans who brought her to the hotel. The men were arrested for sexually assaulting Furlong’s friend. Police have now re-arrested the 19-year-old man who was in the hotel room with Furlong when she was found dead. The new arrest is for murder.
The press is also now reporting that the man admitted he strangled Furlong:
Police suspect that he killed Ms Furlong after she refused his sexual advances, according to Japanese news agencies.
He confessed to pressing his victim’s neck with his hands but said he did not mean to kill her, it has been reported.
Surveillance camera footage also indicates that Furlong may have been too intoxicated to consent to sex:
The man was allegedly captured on CCTV wheeling Ms Furlong to his room at the Keio Plaza Hotel in the city’s Shinjuku district at around 1am.
In the footage, Ms Furlong appears to be unconscious in the wheelchair. Police believe that her drink may have been spiked.
I can’t help but wonder where they got that wheelchair. Did the hotel give the man the wheelchair so he could bring a passed-out girl to his room?
Dancer James Blackston, has been officially charged with the sexual assault of Nicola Furlong’s friend.
