Japanese publisher Shogakukan announced that the Detective Conan television anime's newest specials will star the character Kaitō Kid in August. The "Detective Conan Special: Summer Kaitō Kid Festival" episodes will take over the Detective Conan series' timeslot for two weeks.
The specials will begin on August 4 with "Magic Kaito ~Karei Naru Rival-tachi~" (Magic Kaito: Magnificent Rivals) and conclude on August 11 with "Magic Kaito ~Red Tear no Himitsu~" (Magic Kaito: Red Tear Secret). More details will be published in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday.
Gosho Aoyama's original Magic Kaito manga centers on a young budding magician named Kaito Kuroba who follows in his late father's footsteps as the legendary thief Kaitō Kid. The character has since appeared in Detective Conan stories, often as a formidable rival.
A Magic Kaito television anime special aired in April 2010 as the first anime adaptation of the manga. Four Magic Kaito specials also "hijacked" Detective Conan's timeslot last August, and more specials followed in September and December.
