Momoiro Clover Z women’s only concert at Budokan is a success

On October 5th, idol group Momoiro Clover Z held their women’s only concert titled ‘Momoclo Aki no 2-dai Matsuri ~Onna Matsuri 2012~‘ at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.

The concert was a huge success with a an audience of 10,000 women. Last year they already held a similar concert, but the venue only had the capacity for 800 women. When comparing those numbers, it once again expresses the rapidly increasing popularity of this group outside of just their male fans.

Momota Kanako greeted the girls and women in attendance and stated, “It’s show time for girls and for girls only! Let’s keep it a secret from the boys and turn up the heat!” The audience answered with loud and shrill cheers.

The concert was also broadcast live in 19 movie theaters and live music clubs throughout Japan, which made it possible for 4,000 more female fans to watch it live despite having failed to obtain a ticket for being there in person.
Including the encore, Momoiro Clover Z have performed a total of 23 songs such as “Otome Sensou“, “Moretsu Uchu Kokyokyoku. Dai Nana Gakusho ‘Mugen no Ai’“, “Hashire!“, “Mirai Bowl” and so on.

Sasaki Ayaka said during the concert, “I have a great idea! How about dressing as boys if we do another women’s only concert next year?” The audience liked the idea and cheered them on to go with this plan next year.

Of course Momoiro Clover Z will also cater to their male fans and hold an equivalent men’s only concert titled ‘~Otoko Matsuri 2012~‘ on November 5th.

It's always nice to know that girls/women in Japan actually like girl idol groups too. I always felt the marketing of female idols to men only (and male idols to women only) has alienated a big portion of fans of those groups. Hopefully with this turnout they will try more to market girl idols to women/girls more (and vice versa for boy idols).
