Note: Soundscan ranks sales for each version, and has a little bit smaller coverage of stores compared to Oricon. Though sometimes, Soundscan numbers can be higher than Oricon's. Soundscan also doesn't include label-owned and agency owned stores like Avex/mu-mo shops and AKB's chara-ani.

This is only an experiment. I won't promise that I'm going to do Soundscan every week, but I'll try whenever I have the time.

Thanks for doing it. It's interesting to know the sales of different versions.
whited_79 14th-Dec-2012 03:10 pm (UTC)
you're welcome! :)
eishastan 13th-Dec-2012 10:41 pm (UTC)
That's a HUGE difference compared to Oricon for AKB48's sales, wth..

Theater editions, as well as maybe 100k-200k sold at mu-mo...
eishastan 14th-Dec-2012 06:03 pm (UTC)
Wow theater editions make a big difference then, i was not aware of that.. and i like AKB and NMB lol
yasmine2009 13th-Dec-2012 11:03 pm (UTC)
Woah, the difference in AKB's sales from Oricon is crazy. Their coverage isn't as big as Oricon, but still! O.o
whited_79 14th-Dec-2012 03:19 pm (UTC)
they can sell 700k-800k of theater editions alone, sometimes 900k, and chara-ani isn't included at Soundscan...
hana8796 14th-Dec-2012 12:49 am (UTC)
Wow, the AKB gap is bigger than I'd expected.
stole_away 14th-Dec-2012 01:41 am (UTC)
I thought AKB sold more than this? hmm but well~~ glad to see Yui is selling well :)
asweetsymphony 14th-Dec-2012 04:54 am (UTC)
They did. I think it's because Soundscan didn't count the theater versions of their single since it is only available in the Akb shop or something.
whited_79 14th-Dec-2012 04:21 pm (UTC)
yeah the theater edition can be pre-ordered at AKB's chara-ani shop only and shipped out on the first day and sometimes, the excess within the first week...
kerplunk 14th-Dec-2012 08:26 am (UTC)
Theatre version sells the most and its not counted on sound scan, it is odd to see the major difference in sales,
lilly0 14th-Dec-2012 08:33 am (UTC)
What exactly are the theatre versions?
umbrellaphone 14th-Dec-2012 10:06 am (UTC)
Generally, they're "special" versions that you only can get through the shop chara-ani. They got the usual limited edition bonuses such as diff covers, diff setlist, other bonuses, and most of all, a handshake event ticket. The latter is in the limited non-theatre versions too, but theatre versions are cheaper, and they can be sold in bulk.

they're called theatre versions because they used to be sold exclusively at the akb theatre, but obviously after akb's popularity thats not the case anymore, they're sold online idk where because i never bought any, but they usually sell the most because they have tickets to hand shake events + bonuses, but no DVD.

oh i see someone else already explained , my bad

Thanks so much for sharing this! It's really interesting!

I don't know what to say about AKB's sales. I mean, the gap between the numbers here and at oricon is huge. I knew there would be a difference, but that much. O_O
