I despise Lightning. I couldn't stand her in XIII, she annoyed me in XIII-2 and now I have to play a whole game with her... and only with her? ><
I know many fans say that Lightning is an awesomem character, finally a strong, interesting female main character, but she annoyed me to no end. Even Serah is better. Or Vanille and Fang.
But then, for me, the only interesting characters/plot of XIII and -2 were Caius and Yeul. Hope, if I squint.

Well, let's see how the 3rd part of the series is going to be...

THIS. All of this, basically. Everyone's argument for liking her is saying how she's "strong" or "independent." This annoys me because every FF heroine is strong in her own way. See: Yuna, especially.

In my eyes, Lightning was rather over-confident, arrogant and obnoxious. *lol* I can't even believe how annoyed I was with her - it hardly happens when I'm playing a game. (There is only one videogame character that was worse - and no one will ever be able to beat her - Ar Tonelico 2's Luca. I almost stopped playing the game because of her)

I agree! There were so many strong, independent females in the FF games - all of them strong in their own way. I could feel for many of them. (However, I have to admit that I did have lots of problems to get into the FF XIII characters - almost all of them. Though Vanille's and Fang's story at least somehow touched me)

I think they were trying to make the female equivalent of Cloud Strife, and failed miserably. Qualities that made Cloud endearing and memorable didn't translate well to Lightning. She came off as pompous, cold, and arrogant. How do you even BEGIN to like a character like her? There's nothing to latch onto emotionally, like other FF characters.

Well, that's opening up a whole can of worms...Personally I feel Enix focused too much on gameplay and graphics and the look of the game, and lost focus on their characters. Everyone in the game comes off as cold and lacks a personality. I do like Vanille though. But yeah, basically everything you said!
