On Jan 18th ,Oricon has recently revealed its annual 『Yearly Music industry Report 』for 2012 which covers the sales for singles, albums, music DVDs, and music Blu-ray discs during Jan 2nd 2012 to Dec 30th 2012.
In 2012 ,the total revenues for entire Japanese music industry was over 327 billion Yen (approximately 3.63 billion USD) (Singles : ¥63billion , Albums :¥ 184 billion ,DVD ¥64billion and BD : ¥13 billion ), contributing to 104.1％ increase in total sales compared to the previous year .It 's been the first time for 6years that total revenue increased when compared to the previous year . Moreover , The total sales (counted by unit) were 120 million copies ,up 101.4％ from the previous year .It's also the first time since 2004 that total sales increased .This slightly shows the signal of the music market recovery trend

In the category for the sales by each artist ,as we knew AKB48 claimed the 1st place in total revenues for 2 consecutive year ,possessing 5.9% of the entire music market in 2012 and making ¥19.09 billion (approximately 212 million USD) .The biggest contribution came from Single (¥9 billion) and DVD (¥7.15 billion) which they claimed the top spot for both categories
Exile was the 2nd most total revenue with making ¥12.17 billion (approximately 135 million USD) and posessing 3.7% of market share .Their big sales came from album and music DVD and BD .They increased a place in ranking from 3rd last year to 2nd this year.
In the album category ,Mr.Children was the most successful in this category,making ¥8.49 billion (approximately 94 million USD) .Their sales came from their million hit dual best albums and Original albums which released on November ,selling over 600k copies .They soared from 29th last year to 4th this year ,possessing 3.1% of the market share and making ¥9.94 billion. (approximately 110 million USD) ,thanks largely to their 8 billion Yen in album sales.
Moreover , Kis-my ft.2 jumped from 26th last year to 6th this year and Momoiro Clover Z soared from 103th to 14th this year !

Toy's factory jumped from 11th last year to 9th this year with achieveing ¥14.61 billion in sales, contributing to 2.16 times increase in total sales compared to the previous year .This gave them in 9th place out of all music companies in the industry .It's been for 4 years since Toy's factory claimed the Top 10 spot .The biggest contributors are Mr.Children who release 2 million selling best albums for their 20th anniversary year
