Tokyo police arrested a man who had disrupted the Saturday screening event of ‘Hyperdimension Neptunia’ for allegedly carrying a knife in violation of Japan’s weapon control law. The suspect is identified as a man in his early 30s from Tokyo’s Adachi ward.
Sunshine Ikebukuro theater hosted the event, which consist screenings of the first two episodes of the upcoming anime adaption ‘Hyperdimension Neptunia’ and a talk show with the voice actress who took parts in the project, this includes Tanaka Rie(Chobits,Air Gear,Hayate) Imai Asami(Stein;Gate,IDOLM@STER) and Satou Rina(Railgun, Minami-Ke).
According to police reports, they received an emergency call from event staffs around 1:40PM, alerting them about “a man acting violently on stage.” The man was allegedly carrying a knife that was approximately 10 – 20 centimeters in length, as he spoke “unintelligibly” on the 6th floor of the theater. This incident is currently being investigated by the Ikebukuro police department.
The official website has made an official statement addressing this issue earlier today. "The 'TV Anime Hyperdimension Neptunia's Earliest! Advance Screening Event' that was held on Saturday, June 22 was suspended due to unforeseen circumstances." The staffs of the organization apologized to audiences and attendees and asked them to save their ticket stubs, as the organization will notify people of any updates regarding the event.
President of 5bp. Shikura Chiyomaru tweeted 3 hour after the event, in regards to how future event shall be held and security procedures:
“Regarding the Neptunia incident. My staff and I have been talking, and there seems to be a need to rethink how events will be held. This of course includes having security guards and having more of a feeling of distance between the talent and their fans. It's really a shame.”
‘Hyperdimension Neptunia’ the anime will premiere on the 12th of July.
Management agency of Tanaka Rie made an official statement regarding to the incident at the Neptunia screening event. The agency reported that the voice actress suffered a bruised knee and some minor injuries during the disruption of the event. Although the voice actress escaped serious physical injuries, the staffs believe Tanaka is suffering from severe emotional distress after the incident which happened on Saturday.
The agency stated that Tanaka injured herself when she lost her footing during an attempt to flee the incident. The agency further apologized to attendees, performers and fans for causing them to worry, and asked for their supports to cheer on the voice actress.
Staff of the organization also noted that they are very concern about the incident, however due to restrictions they are unable to give further comments at this time. The priority of the agency right now is to "restore Tanaka’s peaceful life."
