Over the weekend, the first teaser trailer was released for Takeshi Furusawa’s upcoming psychological thriller Roommate starring Keiko Kitagawa and Kyoko Fukada.
In the movie, Kitagawa plays a young woman named Harumi who’s injured in a car accident and sent to the hospital. While recovering, she becomes friendly with her nurse, Reiko (Fukada) and the two decide to share an apartment together after she’s discharged. Over time, Harumi witnesses a series of bizarre events and begins to feel threatened by Reiko’s increasingly strange behavior.
It was also recently announced that Kengo Kora will play Kensuke, the young man who causes Harumi’s accident and subsequently develops a close relationship with her.
The new teaser features Kitagawa and Fukada but doesn’t actually show any in-film footage. Instead, it depicts the film’s theme of horrors lurking under beauty. The two actresses are shown in a neutral location looking typically glamorous as their reflections, a malicious voice-over, and a brief glare illustrate the thinly-veiled animosity between them.
“Roommate” will be released by Toei in Japan on November 9, 2013.
