One year after GACKT's illegitimate child scandal, disaster relief funds embezzlement allegations, and tax evasion fracas, what has GACKT been doing?
According to an acquaintance of his:
"Almost everyone who has been supporting GACKT is gone now. He's living in the basement of his apartment in Setagaya and is planning to sell the 1st~4th floors of his jewelry store in Kyoto. Even his personal chef has left him, and he's all alone living off cup ramens. He's still dating ICONIQ, and has also been frequenting her unit."
GACKT also switched agencies in March this year from Gordie Entertainment to Hoshi Create. He even declared their plans to establish a GACKT PROJECT team within the year. Two months later in May, a managerial executive from Hoshi established his own company G-PRO, where GACKT followed.
"There's no doubt that he left Gordie to avoid further exposure of tax evasion. He was then able to join industry bigshots Hoshi, but was immediately cut after some financial problems. They probably miscalculated the market value of GACKT, whom they had to pay a large transfer fee for. They explained that he was originally tipped to go independent once making his transfer to Hoshi, but he couldn't attract crowds on his tours and even had to call cabaret club girls and "sakura" to fill in the venues. But it seems that Hoshi did not let go of his fan club which can potentially provide them profit. They probably wanted to earn a few more to even up their investment in GACKT."
He also announced on the last day of his yearly tour VISUALIVE (July 7, Yokohama Arena) that next year's tour will be the last.
"He probably wanted to increase the attendance by implying his retirement, but it seems that he's been frequenting Southeast Asia to look for further business opportunities, and has even requested to migrate to Malaysia. His aunt who was always together with him has also made the necessary arrangements to move base to Hong Kong. They must be panicking with the impending investigation by the tax bureau. His aunt used to be an auditor of Gordie, and she just can't dismiss things by saying 'I am not aware'."
His grandmother, who is one of his biggest supporters and goes to his tours in Tokyo from Okinawa every year, comments:
"He never went back to Okinawa since the fracas last year. But he did contact us and said, 'I'm sorry for not telling you' (about his illegitimate child in Canada)". Ending his live tour next year? I wasn't able to attend this year's tour due to some circumstances so it's my first time hearing this. I wonder why someone who works in show business would say something like that. Even Mr. Ken Ogata, whom he worked with in a period flick, told him to seriously consider becoming a full-time actor, but GACKT refused due to his regrets towards music. He's 40 already so I just hope that he pushes on the path that he chose with dignity."
